My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

I illustrated several books in 2004 (via the Beehive Illustration Agency). One of them was PLANET DINOSAUR, by Steve Parker and Miles Kelly Publishing. I will post the five main paintings (acrylic on card) throughout today. Third is the Late Jurassic.

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

In 2003 I decided that if I was daft enough to limit myself to palaeoart, I should be able to supply clients with 2 and 3D reconstructions. I started with Diplodocus (London NHM), but I never finished it.

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

In 2004 I played with a book idea but never took it to a publisher. I did 100 draft drawings for the proposal (never completed), I'll post a few more throughout today. First is Archelon.

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

Into the year 2001. My old landlady commissioned me to paint some sharks, so I chose two Squalicorax and a Cretoxyrhina eating a juvenile Tylosaurus. I later chose to Photoshop the mother tylosaur into the composition.

Today's random portfolio artwork post is "In the Wake of Colossus," one of my paintings from Locked in Time, written by Dr Dean Lomax (the colour version is from the Korean translation). Featured are a passing herd of Mamenchisaurus, Guanlong, and some unfortunate Limusaurus stuck in the mud. There is fossil evidence for this – check out the book!

A 2008 piece depicting Corosaurus. The only purpose for this was playing around in Photoshop and learning how to create painting and photo composite art.

Part 4 of my Newfoundland Cambrian diorama build, from 2005. Building something this big and complicated then shipping it across the Atlantic was a daunting challenge – but it worked!

In 2004 I played with a book idea but never took it to a publisher. I did 100 draft drawings for the proposal (never completed), here is just one more: Spinosaurus (old anatomical proportions) eating a Carcharodontosaurus.

In 2001 I was commissioned by the Creswell Crags Visitor Centre to create a series of paintings illustrating the gorge at different times in the past. I loved this project so much!

Here are the two pictures from 12,000 years ago...

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

We are still in 2004. Here is a coloured sketch of a megaraptorid walking into the ribcage of an eaten titanosaur. The predator is reflected in a pond of blood. Oh, and I know the sickle-claw shouldn't be there (I was making quite a few mistakes back in 2004).

Here are the other illustrations from my 2000 Manchester Museum project. They were all painted to fit on the design company's A3 scanner and printed about the size of a door, so all the imperfections were clear to see.
