I'm really enjoying my old #penplotter but I only have one roll of paper left. It's a weird 9" pinfeed roll ... does anyone out there in #retrocomputing land know where I could find more?
#PenPlotter maintenance today. My HP 7585B stopped responding over RS-232. Diagnostics revealed a problem with the interface card. Luckily I have a spare machine that can donate a new working card!
Today's lunchtime hack was the Hilbert curve on the #penplotter, which was fun to write (I needed an explicit stack because BASIC only has global variables). I really love the flickering lights. #retrocomputing
Had a draining week, mind was fried... Finally found two hours of flow Sunday evening! Used it to generate lots and lots of small rectangles. Loosely inspired by Aiyu's 'Memory Flow' on fx(hash).
Or is it Voyager's hull plating after a particularly rough patch in the Delta Quadrant?
Take two is a big improvement. I disabled all optimizations, so it draws the lines in a predictable order removing previous discontinuities. #penplotter#CreativeCoding#axidraw#openrndr
Updated my image-to-spiral code to a faster variant than the AM/FM waves I often use. This one has multiple spirals, with each having a varying degree of radial displacement based on brightness within the set so at white they all overlay and at black they spread to fill the space between loops of the spiral #PenPlotter#CreativeCoding
I spent the day drawing glyphs with code and finding rules for assembling accents and other diacritics. I think I'm going to scale back my project, a SVG font with a JS API, otherwise I won't be done by 2025.
sorry for the #PenPlotter gush… but i've really been scrounging lately and have dozens of weird manuals, papers, and brochures to process.
one thing i see pretty frequently: lovely tables of plottable letters, numbers, and symbols.
i've been surprised by how often the letter “O” character has a partial stroke to disambiguate it with the number “0". also in this set it looks like the “D" character has an intentional gap, again to make it distinctly non-“0”.
Sometimes I like more the unfinished plot than the finished one. Let's see how this one turns out. The new faster and better sounding servo is definitely an improvement. And this is a real test XD poor thing... #penplotter#CreativeCoding
