Been awhile, but I guess I could do a #3GoodThings today.
Unravelled a knot that had me stuck in a chapter of #Rosemirror
Listening to The National all morning while working on my Oral Literacy lecture.
Enjoying teaching (and in so doing learning more )about Literacy. Fascinating field, many intersections with my focus in Popular Culture, Literature and Philosophy.
How would you describe your work-in-progress's ideal reader?
I have been saying this since my teens -- "I'm writing for that lonely booknerd who discovers my book by accident in a library or bookstore and when they read it, they will feel like they are coming home."
I feel this is a rather tall order, really. But if even one lonely booknerd feels like my words are like coming home, I've fulfilled my brief.
Update of my 🎙 Author #introduction since my debut novel was finally published on the 7th of January, 2024.
Hi, I'm Anita. I used to be published as Nin Harris and under that name I have had fiction and poetry published in Clarkesworld, Strange Horizons, Uncanny Magazine etc. I write baroque planetary romances, dark fiction, Gothic fantasy, #domesticfantasy with #mermaids and #darkacademia settings. I have just published my debut novel, #Watermyth and am working on its sequel, #Rosemirror. I am also a literary academic, a musician and a composer. I have a great deal of imposter syndrome about all of the above, particularly about calling myself a musician and composer given I'm only getting a formal education for most of my musical needs in the past four years (apart from #classicalguitar for which I've had classes off and on since 1995). But I have been making music/composing my whole life.
Here's my only #wordWeavers for January I reckon because the next time I do this I want to be talking about a different WIP!
What are your writing plans for the coming year?
By next week-ish Watermyth will be published in both ebook and paperback. I'm aiming for ebook by this weekend first.
After that I will be working on the sequel to #Watermyth, (#Rosemirror) which will likely be published in 2025.
Also this year, I aim to publish a collection of poems and/or
Publish my first Bunian Empire collection.
I'll also finish up a couple or so short stories to lob at online magazines. If they don't want them, these will go into a 2025 short story collection.
If this sounds like a tall order I aim to pace myself and do as much as possible but either a short story or poetry collection definitely. I want everything in one place as online magazines come and go but print lasts longer.
