I finally saw #PoorThings last night. I'd not been interested at all, but the plethora of Oscar nominations and encouragement from two friends finally convinced me to go. And I'm really glad I did.
Quirky as a description of the film is a serious understatement. But there's so much to like about it, if you can get past certain things. There is a lot of blood and body parts and nudity and graphic sexual situations as well as graphic language, and I don't just mean swear words. 1/4
I know some can find those off-putting. You can for the most part avoid visuals but not so much the aural.
I understand now why #EmmaStone has gotten such accolades for her performance. She gives an incredibly amazing performance, not the least of which is in the physicality of Bella's movements in different phases of her life.
I'm disappointed that they weren't nominated in the ensemble category for the #SAGAwards because everyone is so good. #PoorThings 2/4
The SAG Award nominees were announced today. Among the expected nominations ("Oppenheimer," "Barbie," "Succession" and "The Bear") there were some snubs and unexpected inclusions. Here's a TL;DR from Vanity Fair. What's your attitude to movie awards these days? Tell us in the comments if you pay attention to award nominations when selecting what to watch.
I was not interested in #KillersOfTheFlowerMoon at all, until I saw the trailer. With much trepidation, I saw the film last night. The 3 1/2 hour run-time is daunting, but you don't really feel it, because the story is riveting, and heart-breaking. I'm considering reading the book to get more information.
