Scott George and his fellow Osage Tribal Singers just finished a performance of his Oscar-nominated song, “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)," at the ceremony. Here's an interview with him from the Oklahoman about his music-writing process and how he came to write for the "Killers of the Flower Moon" soundtrack.
Before Scorsese’s film, before Grann’s book, there was a poem… #Osage poet Elise Paschen reads Wi’-gi-e, the inspiration for Killers of the Flower Moon.
At 81, the great film director suddenly has a second career as a social media star. He talks about working with his daughter, the Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon and his journey from the mean streets of 1940s New York
New Yorker interview. Aside from the acting, Lily Gladstone's involved in native language revitalization having acted in multiple native languages herself. Looking forward to more from her.
Apple TV+ bricht dir rigoros deinen Film mittendrin ab, wenn dein Zahlungszeitraum beendet ist. Mittendrin.
"[H]ow much do we know about the #Osage, their history, and their life experiences? And how typical was this particularly gruesome set of murders on tribes in the US and in particular in #Oklahoma. On Today’s show, we will explore the history of the Osage. We will get to know their story in greater detail and ask, what did the film get right and what did it miss?"
Well-meaning white people who truly want to understand and be allies need to internalize this message, shared by #LilyGladstone, on the idea of #assimilation and what that word always means to those of us who aren't white in white-majority situations of every kind.
"This is actually a really oppressive concept for us. We have to put something of ourselves away in order to belong."
I've been following the commentary about Killers of the Flower Moon since I watched it. I thought the movie was great, but there are two camps who are critical of the film:
People who thought the story should be told from a Native American viewpoint. I think that's fair. It probably would've been even better.
People complaining about its run-time of 3hrs 26min.
This is a point I had considered in seeing #KillersOfTheFlowerMoon . It's always problematic for films like this. No one speaks for an entire group of people, but listening to more voices is good.
I’m just back from Killers of the Flower Moon. Martin Scorsese is THE chronicler of white male rage, grievance, resentment, and violence. It’s a heat-seeking missile aimed at the double helix of rot in this American experiment: racism and greed. I understand the concerns of the Osage community, and they need to be able to tell the story of this historical moment as well. Both voices are necessary. #martinscorsese#killersoftheflowermoon
