Just watched #PastLives on Netflix, and what a enchanting film it is... if you loved Amazon's Modern Love series then Past Lives has a very similar feel & focus.
Over three acts, its a tale of empathy, friendship & letting go. Terrific & wonderfully scripted (and acted).
Finally sat down and watched ‘Past Lives’. So refreshing to watch characters that are nothing but honest with each other. The levels of empathy that these characters have for each other is at times surprisingly painful. #film#pastlives
The #Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and here are my thoughts.
So happy that #JeffreyWright was nominated for Best Actor and #SterlingKBrown was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, both for #AmericanFiction . They were both terrific, and the scenes between the two of them were on fire.
I can't even tell you how happy I am for the nomination for #ImJustKen because that's the musical number I'm most excited to see. #Barbie#Oscar#Oscars /2
Glad as hell to be home. Family is fantastic, but holiday travel isn’t. As the smol one, I’m the middle-seat sitter. :(
In good news, watched #PastLives movie on the flight and I can’t possibly recommend it enough. Everyone, AHEM!!!, all you here, do watch it. Very profound feels, beautiful photography. Top drawer! #movies
"Cinematically, Manhattan is still a place where pretty blond women can traipse through the West Village in Manolo Blahniks. But now it’s also a place where Korean Canadian creative types can fall in love, lose their shit on the sidewalk, and hold real power over the men in their lives. Past Lives is the kind of bilingual hit that, just a few years ago, probably wouldn’t have been possible."
Beautiful and heartfelt performances from Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro. Love the Celine Song’s storytelling. Splendid visual aesthetics from Shabier Kirchner. Reminds me of Wong Kar Wai’s mood and tone, Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy dialogues, with hints of Bergman-esque pysche and soul. #Film#PastLives
I saw #PastLives#PastLivesMovie last night, and it's really an amazing film. It resonated with me for multiple reasons, from a different look at the familiar "what if" question, to being someone who had to navigate between two cultures.
With being such a quiet film, I fear that it'll get lost in the shadow of bigger names, but I hope it gets more attention. There are several terrific performances but Greta Lee as one of the leads is an absolute stand-out & is worthy of a Best Actress nom. 1/2
