to @raytheonrainbowmissile for putting me onto Black Country, New Road. Listening to Sunglasses right now.

My favourite new UK music discovery since The Northern Boys.

If you haven't heard Black Country, New Road yet, imagine a hybrid of Sigur Rós (https://yewtu.be/watch?v=qiFgfPiJHyA) and Ozric Tentacles (https://yewtu.be/watch?v=UpONOfahgLA). If you haven't listened to those bands either, you're missing out in all 3 cases.

Check 'em out!

Are Mastodonians still doing top 7 lists? Can we do ? Here's mine, in chronological order:

  1. (Volta tour, outdoor venue in Vancouver)
  2. (Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust tour, outdoor venue on pier in Montreal)
  3. (2017, in Reykjavik)
  4. (2018 tour, in Montreal)
  5. (Split Tooth release tour, in a church in Edmonton)
  6. (Our Raw Heart tour, in Toronto)
  7. (Motewolonuwok tour, Winspear in Edmonton)

I love this album, but think it's awful that they released a limited RSD £50 one before quietly releasing a £35 reissue a couple of months later. Glad I waited. Sounds great though, good Sunday evening record.

What album released so far this year do you have on repeat? Share if you would! Top ten, top five, top three, just one, whatever!

One of the very few things I miss about FB was my semi-regular posts inviting friends and acquaintances to share what they were listening to. I've been turned on to music I otherwise would've missed so I'll try it out here and see what y'all are listening to!

My faves this year have been, in no particular order:

  1. Ric Wilson - Clusterfunk
  2. Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loveliest Time
  3. Caroline Polachek - Desire I Want To Turn Into You
  4. Lydia Loveless - Nothing's Gonna Stand In My Way Again
  5. Noname - Sundial

@heathen Ooo, I love these sort of posts! I keep a list throughout the year for potential Albums of the Year, and I already have 33 albums on there (!). But going through it, I just realized there's only a select few I still actually have on repeat:

#AcidKing - Beyond Vision
#SigurRos - Átta
#Blackbraid - Blackbraid II
#PaulSimon - Seven Psalms

Honorable mention because it hasn't yet been released (but I've had the singles released so far on repeat):

#JeremyDutcher - Motewolonuwok

I caught at the Greek Theater in Berkeley last night.

I loved the show, but the lovely venue made it so much better. I'd forgotten how nice the venue was.

What are some other outdoors concert venues in the Bay Area?

I got a little sick of Sigur Rós when their music was on every "epic" advert - cars driving through waves, slow motion shots of rugby players diving after Heineken beers, buses gliding through beautiful clean cities with no drivers clogging the bus lanes, etc. But the new album ÁTTA is beautiful

Truly a beautiful thing. Sigur Ros are a joy.

- (1999). Sung in Icelandic and Vonlenska (the group’s own made-up language) SR’s breakthrough disc combines dreampop, classical, jazz and ambient gestures in music that thrills and haunts the more you repeat. Birgisson’s Bjork-on-downers voice is a beguiling instrument that lures the listener with its Nordic lament and childlike innocence. A post-rock symphonic journey like no other.
