Bergman's 1957 The Seventh Seal. Saw it once as a very young man. The narrative, the tone, every scene stayed alive within me for decades without rewatching. When I saw the whole film again recently, it was a confirmation not a renewal. An intricate mix of allegory & realism, a general air of wistful reflection of what life is and what it could be, the voice and face of Max von Sydow... this film is one long elegiac poem.
