It's been a bloody mad 24 hours.

Yesterday I was bitten by a leech which left a big hole in my leg. Good effort for something so small.

Then I burst a blood vessel in my left eye. It's ugly and scares the kids I teach so all good there. Doesn't hurt.

This was no problem for giving blood which was what I did today. A plasma donation.

Been too tired to chase auroras the past few nights but really happy for those of you that saw it, and thankful for the amazing pictures you've plastered over Mastodon.

I did get out today in the autumn foliage and was lucky to see my first Mycena Interrupta, or cute little blue mushy, since moving to Tasmania.

Legendary names of the chess world in action at the European Seniors Teams Championship. Greats of the past like Nunn and Beliavsky are playing.

It's a shame that Russia's war against Ukraine deprives us of former great players from there, but, of course, I support the ban on Russian participation.

It's also a shame that the International community can't show consistency as Israeli teams are allowed to take part.

I don't usually do food posts, but I've never tried cooking feta before and it was fantastic.

We had cherry tomato and feta bake, flavoured with garlic, shallot, and fresh basil and served with falafel.

We were doing a bit of gardening out the front of our house when we heard and saw some Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos in trees across the road. My wife went to check them out and took this photo of one flying away, with our house behind.

My job is to teach kids to play chess. I literally just play games all day, and preparation for work is playing more games!

Whenever I get asked about it, the first reaction of all Aussies has been something like.."really? Wow, amazing, how cool." and then they usually talk about a Grandfather or Aunt who used to play chess.

I guess I've been lucky, but no one has ever looked at me weirdly, or judged me for playing games with kids all day 😀

Cataract Gorge in Launceston is like a botanic garden situated in the bowl of a river valley. Out of season it is very pleasant to walk around.

Above a lower level of tree ferns, a range of deciduous trees show a spectrum of autumn coloured foliage. Various shades of red, yellow and some orange look vibrant beneath the clear blue sky.

A Survation UK-wide Poll and YouGov had a Scotland only poll.

I've combined the findings to get UK and Scotland only seat prediction. I used the Political Calculus app.

Large Labour majority UK and Labour biggest party in Scotland.

IM Ulviyya Fataliyeva has won the European Women's Chess Championship 2024! A draw in the final round against GM Nino Batsiashvili was enough to secure the title undefeated with 8.5/10. IMs Nataliya Buksa and Lela Javakhishvili finished 2nd and 3rd respectively with 7.5 points on tiebreak criteria.
