Just a quick recommendation/review for The Bike Sanctuary #BikeRepair shop in #Exeter#Devon - I popped in there yesterday to get my rear wheel looked at. Denes has only been running his own shop for three months after working for others for 16 years, and I went on a friend's recommendation - I don't think there's a lot of social media/SEO out there for it yet. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient and the shop has a strong sustainability focus on repair and reuse
Took my bike to Halfords on 12th March to get it repaired.
They kept saying it would be repaired, but they never got back to me.
I had to chase them so many times just to get the story that the supplier said nothing to them. I can believe that, but why they never bothered chasing it up when that was their own self-imposed deadline is beyond me.
Eventually yesterday I asked to my bike back as they were never going to fix the issue.
Please, need some help from #bikerepair experts (like @pws ):
I'm looking to put a better suspension fork with 1-1/8" steerer tube on an old Cannondale with 1-1/4" steerer.
I see lots of recommendations for the Problem Solvers 2-piece headset reducer, and it's cheap and simple, but that type of reducer doesn't have a curved/slanted seat where it would ride on the existing bearings. Do I need the multi-piece type of reducer that includes its own bearings?
The other day I was riding my partner's bike slowly up a hill, and the back wheel just bent, folding in on itself. The bike jerked to a halt which was quite a fright!
The tire is now pressed up against the break pads, and I'm wondering whether this wheel is going to need replacement, or if it can be easily repaired (professionally—I enjoy doing repairs, but I don't want to risk my partner or I reliving this on a busy street!)
@bruceturner I dunno, I'm seeing special tools being used to remove crank arms when ISIS interfaces are involved. (And also videos on how not do have to use the special tools but I don't have a regular puller either? So I'd need to buy something either way I guess?)
After far too much poking around I'm pretty sure this is the crank:
„Das Hinterrad meiner #Gazelle ist platt!” – „No Problemo. Hast du zwei Stunden Zeit und viel Pflaster dabei? Dann denk jetzt an was Schönes und schau lieber nicht hin.”
F@$&!
Someone stole my seat and seat post inside my building garage. I replaced the quick release with a hex ring last year to reduce the risk of this. #ottbike
Dropped into Re-Cycles this afternoon and got everything I need to get riding comfortable again (for a reasonable price). #ottbike#bikeRepair#BikeTheft#BikeTooter
Doing some free #BikeRepair at a local special ed school. They have 14 bikes for the students to ride. Most of them have bent rear derailleurs so you know the kids are having a blast! #Cycling#Vermont
Some dingdong has been tampering with bikes in the bike room in my building. Last week someone stole the quick release skewer off my BF's bike (good thing we cable lock our wheels but still... super dangerous). So I just replaced the quick releases on my wheels with "anti theft" bolts.
On a positive note, I do love these community bike repair stands.
Heyho Fediverse,
A vice bolts onto the back of the trailer, which means that with the addition of a pencil/screwdriver/stick I have a wheel truing/building rig with me wherever I go.
Also this wheel is now true, much better than the wobblefest it was.
Also also, I meant to take a picture before putting the tyre back on, but oh well, you get the idea I'm sure.
