And one less previous owner nonsense (red springs).
No exceptional difficulties, the bolts for the shock absorbers needed some convincing to come out, but nothing serious compared to salt-soaked marine diesel bolts.
No spring compressor required, with the shocks disconnected I gently let the rear axle down until the springs could be lifted out.
Finally got my 4Runner back (not that I had need for it for the last few days), with a new starter and assorted parts related to the AC cooling fan clutch/pulleys which were literally screaming for replacement (well, squealing). Prefer to fix stuff when symptoms show up vs. waiting for a breakdown in the middle of a farm field, LOL. #carrepair
Yay! Finally, the vehicle won't start at all... rather than being intermittent. New starter or cables needed, likely. Has been spotty for months, but neither I nor my mechanic had been able to diagnose it since it was so intermittent. Intermittent car problems are worse than car problems. #carrepair
This is an AMAZING introductory video on how the Porsche double-clutch (PDK) transmission works. It’s explained in very plain terms, with simple illustrations and a teardown of an actual transmission to show how they physically appear.
Thermostat #shitjob complete. German car designers have been cursed to serve eternity in Avernus as a Lemure, my hand is sore and the dog learnt some new swearwords. Fresh pink soup filled in!
Engine comes back up to normal working temperature and nothing else got broken in the process.
Something to be said for not buying the biggest engine option in any given car model. Smaller engine = more space to work!
Car battery dead 2 days in a row. After jumping it and driving around yesterday, it started up a few times with no problem, but it's dead again. An alternator is either working or not, right? It can't be charging your battery, but not doing a great job at it, yeah? Really hoping all I need is a new battery. #cars#automotive#carRepair
