"We 1st discuss the current state of #platform#governance scholarship, followed by background on #Mastodon. We then explain #covenantalfederalist political theory, followed by an examination of Mastodon’s #covenant. Such an approach will clarify an alarming case in Mastodon’s history: the intrusion of the alt-right platform Gab into the Mastodon. We conclude with critiques of Mastodon’s covenantal approach and calls for further research." https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/1369118X.2022.2147400
I just attended a very inspiring #FnF23 session convened by @erikkemp on the topic of Fediverse governance. People from many countries, backgrounds and groups were present.
In my opinion, it's too early for creating governing bodies, and I'm not sure we will ever need them. What I find useful is covenants that instances can sign. E.g. digitalcourage.social signed the well-known Mastodon covenant <https://joinmastodon.org/covenant> as well as the #fedimins covenant <https://fedimins.net/en/covenant/> which is still a work in progress.
Y'all are wrong about #Alien#Covenant. Well, it's art & art is subjective, so maybe not "wrong" but I just think it's a more essentially Alien movie than most. I'm no #Prometheus apologist, but I also think it makes Prometheus more of an Alien film.
Overall, Covenant's flawed third act & meandering story doesn't undo its excellent design, cinematography, acting, & superb momentum towards chaos. The centrepiece 2nd act action is so good, imo, I'd put it against anything from Alien or Aliens.
And when she tried to join the Fediverse, she was greeted with a barrage of hate, sexism, racism, and anti-semitism that should have never been allowed to happen.
So now no one on Fediverse gets to interact with her directly about her work on here. Our loss. 😢
Which is why we'll make it so that this type of terrible welcome is unlikely to happen again. Allowing it to happen to her was a choice. We will make better ones.
