When I bought my last #smartphone in 2019, I got a case for it, not realizing it already came with one.

I simply decided to use the "official" case with it and keep the extra as a backup "just in case".

Last year I finally got fed up with how the first case had yellowed and just didn't look nice anymore. Got my second case on it and I have had that "new phone" feel for months now without spending or buying a new one. I might use that trick for the next phone, too.

I airtight used prescription bottles to store them after making them. I remove labels from bottles & paint them, for gifting to friends. Very frugal & useful gifts that my friends appreciate getting 😊

America wastes a staggering one-third of its food, as revealed by a MITRE-Gallup report in November. This translates to an average family of four throwing away at least $1,500 worth of food each year.

Everything I'm wearing, except for my black winter vest, were finds. I'm very .

I don't think you need a lot of money to create your own . Almost everything in my closets are free or very cheap used items. I'm & try to never buy new things unless absolutely necessary.

I'm a very tiny woman so I benefit lots from from ppl who have kids who grow very fast.

This entire outfit cost $5.
That's what I paid for the vest.

I have often had my sneakers break at the heel just when they were most comfortable and I had to buy new ones. Since that's not necessarily , I tried to repair them this time .... Worked out well :)

The shoe glue and heel pads/adjustable shoe pads were less than 5€. It takes a while to glue the new heel pad depending on how many screw or spring clamps you use in parallel.

Two clamps, a heelpad and shoe glue.

on "Learning heterogeneous delays of spiking neurons for motion detection"

We build a with heterogeneous delays, that is with the capacity integrating a spatiotemporally structured spiking history...

Results show excellent accuracy, and especially the capacity of performing this computation much more economically, up to 500 less ! Another step for more computations and hopefully a better understanding of neural computations.

We're in escrow on a house! So I'm suddenly stoked about spotting home maintenance gear at yard sales.

Today: A perfectly good $220-when-new ladder for $100, plus a broom for cheap. By bike, of course.

A foldable ladder and a push-broom loaded on a yellow Carla Cargo bike trailer, attached to a red Riese & Mueller cargo e-bike parked in a driveway. The foliage on the side of the driveway is brown because it's summertime.

In my garden it is WAY easier to grow spinach than basil. I usually grow basil in big pots so I can keep and eye on it but have masses of spinach out in the garden. So, when I make pesto, I find that cutting at least 50/50 with spinach makes the basil go much farther, you can barely tasted the spinach especially if you like your pesto garlicky and cheesy. I try to keep jars of it in the fridge to make quick pasta meals when it's hot and all else fails.

Day 2 of "no spend July" to save money and already I'm presented with a problem.
I don't own any shoe polish but I need to clean up and protect my boots for the coming rain this week.
Anyone know of any household stuff that might do the trick?

Daily-driving for 2+y and I love it! Won't go back to *droid golden prison!

BUT it's a tradeoff, like all things in life.. and freedom comes with a cost (otherwise it's somebody fooling you with the illusion of it for their own profit..)

1/ performance is poor. You have to optimize your session/apps to get the best of the battery.

2/ It's work. like free/libre sw in general. It's emergent. Have to fix/admin. (better than free labour for GAFAM no?)

Has anyone eaten ox heart before? It's the cheapest meat at the supermarket and I want to try it before they put the price up 😕 Recipes gratefully accepted!
