The first negative I've discovered about the TH-D75A is a personal one: the official and RT Systems software is all Windows-only. Also "Reflector Terminal mode is supported by Windows or Android with 3rd party apps." I really dislike Windows and don't have any Android devices, so this is all unfortunate for me, al
though I've dealt with it on Kenwood radios before. #hamradio
Consider you would do promotion for #amateurradio in the #maker / #fablab / #hacker community, or towards youth in a #coderdojo , does it make sense to try to get the local radioclub involved?
Or do you just start a local radio-amateur group inside a #hackerspace or the coderdojo?
As much as I don’t fully understand the appeal of #hamradio , looking at folks setups gives me a huge grim. Radios upon radios with random screens. What for? Who knows. But it looks amazing!
14215 USB: a rashist is talking to his bottle of vodka 😆 mixes russian and English, "no yadernoy voyny, yadernoy voyny ni kogda nye budet'" = "a nuclear war will never be"... yeah sure 🤡 #hamradio
Some talk around the #ARRL outage starting around roughly 26:00. One of the panelists is a data security expert and seems to agree with the current ARRL approach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHZxW6ebj1s
My non-blindness physical disabilities are worsening and I have realized after an antenna incident over the weekend that I can no longer maintain my #AmateurRadio station all by myself. If anyone out here is a #HamRadio op in the West Valley of the #Phoenix area in #Arizona I'd really appreciate a DM if you're interested in helping. I'd really like to keep my station on the air. Thanks and 73.
Got all of the elements cut and crimped. Need to make up some radials and get the hardware on the mast. My assistant has decided she isn’t as interested in helping me with that today, so we will get back at it tomorrow. We’ll know what we have when it’s off the ground and ready to tune.
This is an AnyTone 578UVIII PLUS. It's currently off. The activity light is blue. That's not ever described in the manual. That light goes cyan when receiving DMR, but not pure blue.
Furthermore, it only does this like a minute after I start the car. Only if the car has been idle for some time.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? This isn't documented, like, anywhere. It's one of those things where you search for it and it sounds like you're the only person in the world with the problem.
Funny thing about some American #Hamradio guys and their disdain for the Metric system, sometimes over the air arguments break out about it. Eventually some wag will pipe up " well you didn't put a man on the moon, did you?" In one particular rendition of this argument, somebody on the other side of the planet breaks in and says in accented English: " you didn't either, you paid Germans to do it, and Nazis to boot!" I Howled! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEJ9HrZq7Ro&t=24s
I rearranged the power supply and body of my FTM-500 because I noticed that even if the radio had been off, if I left the PS on it created enough heat for the 500's fan to come on and stay on when powered up. That was with the radio body stacked directly on top of the PS... So I split them up onto their own shelves. I then also made #3Dprint risers that have a hex pattern for better ventilation, particularly on the PS which has most of its vents on the underside. #hamradio
Message body line2: Do you carry an HT with you or keep a radio on while you are doing other things around the house or in the yard? [Y/N feel free to explain]
Message body line3: Do you agree to have your callsign shared in the check-in list? [Y or N/opt-out]
Please boost and encourage each other to practice using Winlink!
Here's a fun signal processing challenge that we invented during a hiking trip through cornwall 10 years ago:
At Lands End, there's the "Lighthouse" which emits an acoustic beacon consisting of regular loud beeps, presumably bc. this can be caught by sailors even in thick fog. Now, the question that occurred to us immediately: How far away from Land's End can you capture this sound with a microphone by using very steep FFT filters and convolution methods? Miles? Further? #hamradio #electronics
From another club:
On the 146th day at 5:20pm local time everyone get on 146.520 and see who you can talk to.
146th day of 2024 is May 25th and it's a Saturday!!!"
I went looking for different ways to use AllStar repeaters from the comfort of my home, and it seems to be lacking any kind of dedicated client for Linux, let alone something for iPhone or the web.
Does everyone just set up a hotspot/node and operate that way? I’m thrilled about a diy project, but I was surprised there wasn’t a straight forward way to just connect via software like EchoLink.
There are some new comments on my #Inclusivity in #hamradio blog post on @kb6nu blog. I'm not sure if something happened to re-surface this conversation, but I am happy people are engaging with it.
Even "Joe" who threatens me to "support straight christain hetero males and females… we are the majority that pay to keep the arrl alive…remember that !"
