I wonder if the wedge should be rotated 90 degrees though? As the wedge tightens inside its mortise, the way it's shown it would be trying to split the wood between layers of grain. If rotated it would be tightening the assembly, no?
@ottaross yeah I considered that, but I’m following an existing design and decided to leave it unchanged. The nice thing about side to side is that I get two wedges that have much more surface area, but I agree that up and down would be less risky
Ich mache hiermit mal auf die neue SWR Reihe Meisterstücke aufmerksam, die direkt im ersten Beitrag ein richtig klasse Möbel präsentiert. Absolut bemerkens- und sehenswert.
After about 6 months, I finished up a guitar I built for my 16yr old kid. We used maple (which is heavy, but sturdy). It's a Telecaster body style, and he picked out the electronics. We're both pretty happy with how it turned out!
Been playing with plywood patterns based on hexagonal shapes. This creates Esher like structures. These will be used as coasters by my friend who is building a bar in his house.
For the last couple of days I've been working on an #OpenSCAD program to create custom #Pantorouter tenons. Set the tenon dimensions, the inner bit/bearing, outer bit/bearing, rows/columns, and it does all the math. But after printing out a full size paper preview I think what I want to do is going to be much bigger than the Pantorouter can handle. #woodworking
@moira@NF6X I'm probably overthinking it. Who cares if there's a tiny dent that gets transferred to the tenon in the center? It’s just more space for glue!
@fozztexx@NF6X I... now that you say it, I think I've seen people do that intentionally. Have small channels, I mean. So you don't get trapped air and such. And similar reasons.
@SketchyAbstractions Nice to watch and I love the result! Some day when I have an actual shop and better tools I'd love to make quality stuff like this.
Also appreciated the lack of ads btw, instant subscribe. 🔥
One of the best things about Mastodon has been discovering and connecting with new communities by following hashtags. Most of the people I follow are people I’ve met through different tech communities (mostly iOS). Following hashtags like #lakelife#woodworking#DIY#wine and #breadposting has connected me to many people with similar interests that I probably wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise. And it’s brought welcome low-tech offline content into my feed.
Got most of the breadboard ends done. I cannot believe how much work those are! Basically four resaws. Anyway everything fits and I’m gluing up the leaves. The breadboards need to fit about 1/8” to 1/4” deeper. Will do that part tomorrow and hopefully most of the undercarriage too. #woodworking
