We've just released version 3.4, which is all about efficiency:
🚀 Faster refreshing (of podcasts with 1k+ episodes)
🚀 Up to 10x faster podcast deletion
🚀 Restructuring of codebase to modernise it & make it ready for new contributors (wrapping up a 3-year effort)
🤐 Skip silence setting per podcast
🔙 Option to automatically backup the database
🔀 Ability to reorder home screen sections
… and more
@julian
We provide stickers and eternal gratitude to contributors of all sorts. We don't give out monetary incentives as it makes things difficult (how to determine the amount, how to determine for which feature we set up a bounty, etc).
If you're willing to contribute as non-dev have a look here: https://antennapod.org/contribute/ Any contributor who stays around for a longer time is a great asset, and makes it more likely that features will get implemented (e.g. by freeing up time of core contributors)
Did you notice? We have almost 5.000 followers!
Now we're wondering: might we find among you (or your network) two experienced UX/UI designers who are willing to engage in a 6-month volunteer project? We need to come up with a way to fit a bunch of new functionality into the already busy player screen. We're looking for two people (one for each role) to help us with this.
Interested? More info? Send a DM or email keunes@mailbox.org.
Boosts appreciated! #UXdesign#UIdesign#OpenSource
AntennaPod has been growing for well over a decade, lead by several main developers. With contributions from many, the code structure grew more and more complex. The past three years we spent restructuring code to make our beloved app clean, lean, and ready for the future. All while releasing new features and fixes! Learn more about why we started this endeavour and see the difference for yourself 👇
Listicles, you know; those quick win articles from publishers who just sum up a few options for task X based on a web search, adding a brief comment on each of the options. AntennaPod was (very) often overlooked. Probably because we weren't included in previous listicles. The quality of those articles isn't great, so we shouldn't take it as a sign of AntennaPod not being worth a mention. Stil, it stung a little. 1/2
Our 3.3 release is now available both on F-Droid and Google Play! What you'll find:
🚙 Android Auto improvements
⏭️ Next chapter button in notification
💅 UI polishing (including sort dialog)
➕ and more smaller fixes & improvements
ℹ️ Public service Announcement: we've moved the 'Refresh' button to the overflow menu (behind the three dots). You can also still pull to refresh.
Hi @AntennaPod people, thanks for all your hard work! Very happy with your FLOSS app. IMHO the best podcast available on Android. Looking forward updating to the latest version. Keep up the good work!
Do you remember #AntennaPodEcho from last year? It was a lot of fun thinking about the data we could show and implementing the screens that calculate and display your personal statistics! It's early on in the year, but it's time to start working on this year's Echo. Are you a (hobby) designer or Android developer, and interested in contributing to this cool gimmick? We're looking for you! Chip in on the forum and let us know 👇 https://forum.antennapod.org/t/preparing-antennapod-echo-2024/4326
@M
We did consider but decided against it as it would defeat the purpose of having something special, for everyone at the same time. Basic statistics are available as usual via the Subscriptions screen (using the 📊 button in the top bar).
So, it's late March. Just over a week until #GooglePodcasts gets sunset! 🌇
If you are using Google Podcasts and haven't looked into alternatives yet: now is the time. If you want to give AntennaPod a try, here's a guide written by fellow fediverser @alecm: https://alecmuffett.com/article/109414
@AntennaPod in Antennapod, why did the refresh button disappear into a menu on the queue view? This is infuriating. With a long queue it is impractical to use pull to refresh. And using the menu is prone to user error ("cleared queue, oh you wanted refresh?").
This week we released another version of our beloved podcast app. What's new?
A 'boost' option to increase the volume of specific podcasts for example!
Plus plenty quality-of-life improvements in:
🔃 Synchronization
🔓Password-protected feeds
🚙 Android auto
🦯 TalkBack
🔎 Search
Download or upgrade now to version 3.2, as always, on F-Droid or Google Play:
@AntennaPod THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE BOOST FEATURE! Please pass this on to whomever implemented that! So many of my podcasts I can't listen to near the highway as it is just too loud there with all the trucks.
Do you use AntennaPod while on the move? 🚴No more need for acrobatic (and in some places illegal) acts on the bike to skip those ads or go back to catch that comment. Or to take off your gloves to tap the screen while it's cold. 🥶
Version 3.2 now allows you to double/triple-press physical buttons to fast forward or rewind!

@AntennaPod besides the list of subscriptions, does the OPML also contain the other library entries (history and queue in particular) or would I need to rebuild them manually? That's the main reason I haven't switched players yet...
Hi @waldyrious
Sorry for the delayed answer. The OPML file only contains your subscriptions – the episodes, listening status and queue are not included. As far as we are aware, Google does not allow you to export that data, so you would need to start afresh in that sense (this applies to any other app than Google's). Quite unfortunate, and we understand your hesitation to switch!
In just under an hour our monthly #CommunityCall will focus on translations and translators! What are the top and most exotic languages that our app is used in? How can we improve the process & quality? Who are the (other) folks making our software accessible to non-English speakers?
