Comet 12P Pons-Brooks is now a naked eye object, if you can see it through all of the Starlink satellites. Photo by Richard Schrantz in Nicholasville, KY USA. Schrantz writes: "I tried to image comet 12P Pons-Brooks on 3/28/24. Even though the field of view is just 1.75 degrees wide, I was carpet-bombed by satellites! This represents only 25 minutes of exposure. Thanks Starlink (and/or other satellites). Sheesh. Epsilon 180 ED, ST10XME camera." I want to do the same with the scenery I saw 8 years ago near Interstate 40, driving though Texas and Oklahoma. Flat, scrubby, empty land with occasional islands of service stations or oil rigs or old-school wind turbines. Sometimes a ranch sign straddling a road leading to nowhere.

    So last night, around dinnertime, Chris and I got the pathology report back, followed almost immediately by a note from my butt surgeon.

    NO ABNORMAL CELLS, NO HYPERPLASIA, NO RECURRING SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA... just infected tissue and granulation from a large fissure and f***ing fistula that have refused to heal (we'll see about that, asshole).

    I feel... just wow. Wow. The two-year roller coaster ride looks like it might finally be over.

    So now the antibiotics need to do their thing. Next checkup will be in 3 weeks to see how the healing is going... and then it's back to the gym and back to, well, just about everything.

    Actual shot from the operating room: the doc and anesthesiologist working on my butt.

    So far okay... fissure, fistula, infection. Biopsy will be back next week. I am currently doped up and happy.

    @DemocracySpot Yeah. That was nerve-wracking. But wonderful staff, very reassuring, and the doc was upbeat. I'm relaxing on the couch now while Chris makes a pharmacy run for me.
