#UK folks - time to get out and #vote. I didn't trudge around my neighbourhood last night in the bastard rain, delivering leaflets so you could let some Tory arsehole squeak a win.
There is also a real possibility that if the bastards get a proper thumping they'll call a general. So for once, every vote really might count.
@mkarliner You have to do both these days, of course. Social media's great for talking about issues big and small - not so good for candidate outreach.
You'd be amazed at how many people still use the "I didn't get a leaflet from X so I won't vote for them" as a defaqto method of chooing which box to put their cross in.
I'm quite seriously thinking about standing as an independent in the GE on a proportional representation ticket. No chance of winning in a safe Labour seat, but worth making the point.
@BonehouseWasps the cult is capitalism. LLMs are tools to suppress wages for labor — they’re just so excited bc they hope that they suppress wages a LOT
Liz #Truss 's book is out soon. It's called "10 years to save the west" - directly cribbing a theme from Alex Jones, Steve Bannon, Bill Cooper and Oswalds Mosley and Spengler if you want to go back far enough.
I can't find a review yet but I do kind of want to read it.
If she's written it, I've no doubt it will be unhinged and laden with conspiracy. If it's ghost-written (or largely AI-generated) it will be regurgitated banalities.
@BonehouseWasps I am generally opposed to pirating books because hey writing them is what I do for my living but in this special case ... go ahead, pirate it. (Truss isn't a working author, she's just a publicity-seeking chaos agent. And at worst this is a money laundering channel for dark billionaire slush funds to funnel money to her in the coming Tory leadership contest.)
I still don't buy the "40% of Americans believe there was fraud" datum. Problem is their polling is awful and always has been. Why would this figure be accurate?
It isn't. Polling isn't for finding the beliefs of the many, it's for seeding them. Polls aren't about finding opinions, they're about manipulating them.
Masto #3D#Design folks - I'm in the process of designing a board game as part of my Masters graphic design course. I'd love to get some playing pieces 3D printed - maybe half a dozen. But I have very limited (and 20 yr-old) 3D chops.
Is there anywhere to buy models suitable for 3D printing? Or are there easy to use 3D design and sculpting tools now? Anything in the Adobe suite that my company pays for?
Ideally, I'd like 1" high a bust of an Alex Jones type character...
@BonehouseWasps you'll get models on sketchfab and cgtrader. As for printing, that's a tricky one. Here in Ireland some public libraries have 3d printers, but not many
@BonehouseWasps Also, those "X's net worth" estimates are rubbish. (Someone on mastodon accused me of being a millionaire on the basis of one that was merely out by an order of magnitude: I wish?)
I checked the Wikipedia entry on Neuralink and it rings alarm bells. Started in 2016 by Musk, a timeline for FDA approval that doesn't fit announcements, and allegations of a corporate culture typical of Musk's enterprises.
Wikipedia sounds plausible. That doesn't mean it's correct.
The Neuralink process for the brain implant is novel but it may not have sufficient useful life.
@davebell396@BonehouseWasps Brain implants are one of those technologies where the MTBF for the implant MUST exceed the MTBF of the implantee. And there must be lifetime after-sales support, Or Else.
