Independence will be good for Scotland and England. Doing my little bit to push it along.

How UK's energy 'spot price' hinders Scotland – and how to fix it

https://www.thenational.scot/politics/24371547.uks-energy-spot-price-hinders-scotland---fix/

However, the electricity produced in Scotland, which is almost all renewable energy, will generally cost less than this “spot price”. Scottish customers are nevertheless charged the higher UK-wide price!

Scotland also pays higher standing charges than the rest of Great Britain.

In 1997 74% of Scots voted for a devolved Scottish Parliament. Since then Westminster has overruled devolved decisions made by the elected Scottish Government 12 times. Use it or lose it.

Odd that the Guradian apparently appears not to have noticed that Westminster has overruled devolved decisions in Scotland 12 times. The inescapable conclusion seems to be that the Guardian doesn’t want to aid Scottish Indy by highlighting this when voter support for Indy is at 50%, but happily highlights it in Wales due to lower Indy suppprt there. The Guardian is, after all, very much pro-Union.

I’ve met some Tories who are, individually, charming and likeable people. They just seem to have been made with something missing. Something akin to empathy. As Galbraith put it - “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”

The rest of us have known for ages that Douglas Ross is a pretty nasty piece of work. Must have come as a bit of a shock to many fellow Tories, though, to suddenly realise just how nasty, their nastiness threshold being naturally so high already.

Westminster Tory. Westminster Labour. Westminster Tory. Westminster Labour. Westminster Tory. Westminster Labour. We’ve tried this for decades and yet each new generation of voters seems to have to learn the lesson again that this swings and roundabouts doesn’t work for Scotland and never has. We are fools if we try this again.

For those just now being introduced for the first time to the power of bias in the media in the run-up to #ge2024 may I introduce you to this - a documentary about BBC bias during the 2014 independence referendum campaign. This is not new, you've just been unaware or ignoring it because you didn't think it affected you. #Scotland #IndependenceIsNormal #BBCbias

I have a sneaking feeling that the SNP isn’t going to do as badly in the election as many pundits have been suggesting. It’s a simple fact, though, that even if they do comparatively well the pro-union corporate media will paint any seat losses as a disaster both for the SNP and the independence campaign. It’s what they do.

Hi @stvnews, seeing as the ITV GE24 debate seems to be excluding everyone except London-registered Tories and Labour it seems only fair that any TV debates you hold in Scotland should include everyone but the Tories and Labour. That's fair, no?

"A parliamentary election consists of hundreds of individual constituency contests. In Scotland, the vast majority of those will be SNP v Labour races. How can those take place on a level playing field if the main TV debates only feature Labour and the Tories? They can't. They will clearly be rigged in favour of Labour."

Whether or not you support independence for Scotland, you must surely support the principle of democratic choice. In which case every person in Scotland meeting a prospective MP or their campaigners from whichever party must ask them these three simple questions.

  1. Is the union voluntary?
  2. Can Scotland leave?
  3. How does Scotland leave if it wants to?

@JackTheCat @Robbins And rightly so. What’s the point of these TV debates if parties are excluded?

Indyposterboy, to random

Not a fan of TV debates, as they are more showbiz than politics, but the fact that the establishment thinks it fine to include only the ‘main’ two parties in the ITV TV debate is undemocratic. There is no longer a pretence at fair representation in the UK.
