One of the beautiful things about 2001 A space odyssey is that HAL the AI supercomputer on the ship is more human than the human crew, and becomes mentally ill when he can’t negotiate conflicting job requirements.

And the scene when Dave purportedly kills HAL while it is observing what’s happening is somehow more harrowing to watch than the scenes where all but one of the human crew get murdered by HAL.
