@Erik some day we'll add a fair percentage of COVID fatalities too. People who worked in the service industries for example, Nurses dying for lack of PPE because the Government was too busy grifting, etc.....

Lazarou,
@Lazarou@mastodon.social avatar

@Erik aye, its too early to count the cost of COVID, what with it still being around. But Capitalism did indeed make it far worse than it should have been, probably why (for example) the British Government are so scared of those Whatsapp messages going public.

Sometimes I like to play drawception.com it’s a telephone style drawing game and very relaxing. So it was disappointing to discover that from time to time people show up and draw racist/homophobic stuff (in a cute little drawing game for crying out loud) Happily the moderators on the site are good and act quickly and reasonably (and seem experienced with this nonsense)

Any space with room for free expression and creativity seems to attract these elements. Like they are on a relentless mission.

@futurebird the last time I was on Reddit regularly (2016) I was in the SimCity4, doing what us mayors do, build cities, but some nazi twat somehow managed to shoehorn racism into the conversation and I just left Reddit for good after than.

    I had something weird and unpleasant happen on Mastodon. Nine months ago, when I still tweeted, someone argued with me about on Twitter. He got abusive, so I blocked him. Yesterday, he showed up on Mastodon, and his account has ONE post: Attacking me about my COVID posts. The guy chased me between social networks just to abuse me! (Of course, he's blocked again.) How creepy is that? Who stalks people across the internet to abuse them for wanting people to protect their health?

    Josie (6 years old), Bertha (6 years old) and Sophie (10 years old) worked regularly at the Maggioni Canning Company. Work began at 4 AM and the three would make from $9 to $15 a week. Sophie would do six pots of oyster a day and her mother who also worked with her said "She don't go to school. Works all the time."

    Through such photos, Lewis Hine documented the harsh working conditions borne by thousands of children, who were sent to work soon after they could walk, and were paid based on how many buckets of oysters they shucked daily.

    He covered around 50,000 miles a year, photographing children from Chicago to Florida working in coal mines and factories.

    These photos helped to raise an outcry against child labor and made the American public become widely aware of the scope of the problem. This resulted in the establishment of organizations such as the National Child Labor Committee, in 1904, which led the fight against child labor.
