So here's the thing. I like animals including, of course, dogs. (I don't have any because I live in an apartment and I'm allergic to most mammals.)

But when I'm running/hiking at the county park. Where leashes are REQUIRED on the trails. And dogs I don't know come running up to me.

The reason I look unhappy at the owners is not because I dislike dogs. It is not because I have an irrational "fear" of dogs. It's because I don't like complete strangers running up to me out in the woods. 😠

@_L1vY_ This treatment is a manifestation of ageism. Contrary to the very old picture on my profile (I'm pushing 75) I have experienced myriad shades of ageism. It's just another way to erase a woman.

My husband is presenting in an all-day virtual conference with other experts in the field, including Dr. Edward Hallowell, for an /ADHD audience.

He put his slide deck on Slides as required. Then technical glitches occurred (slides weren’t fully loading) during the test run. The IT person asked him if he was on a Mac (he is). According to the IT person, they have trouble with Mac users being able to run slideshows when there are multiple presenters.

It’s 2024. C’mon man. 🙄

Thinking about Mom . She died unexpectedly in Sept 20 in a rehab facility and hadn’t had direct contact with us for a while. Retired teacher, cross-stitcher, gardener. Proud of her 4 boys, married fathers, college grads, 2 of us US Army officers with advanced degrees. She could really brag on us. She loved her 10 grand babies and reveled in doting on them. She flew to TX to help us when my wife went blind 2 wks after our son was born. Some days it hits me out of the blue. Miss you Mom. 💔

I'm new and excited to be here? I've been looking for ways to be connected and have services available, but keep privacy and security top of mind. My efforts have been focused on my home network, but I'm starting to broaden that to social media. I've always had a beef with SM and have hated how irrelevant it can be.

In many ways this is just an experiment, but it is one that I hope takes off and is, for me, successful.

A bit about me: I'm a nerd, pure and simple. I love Star Trek, reading (anything), science/tech, DnD (Monks for the win!), woodworking, and astronomy. I'm currently looking for ways to combine hobbies (like building a 3d-printed & wood framed telescope).

We bought an overpriced extended warranty from #Lowes for our new dishwasher. It’s only a year old and suddenly doesn’t recognize that it’s filling with water, so it abruptly drains and shuts down.

We filed a claim using the warranty 2 weeks ago and we’ve been trying to get a repairman out or a replacement without success. No humans, just automated hell promising a repair person will be out in 2 days. Two weeks of this game. 🙄

It feels like every damned thing is a grift these days.

Real LGBTQ allies don’t call strangers ma’am (or sir). Unintentionally misgendering someone is an easy way to ruin their day and make them feel unseen and unwelcome in public space. Plus lots of cis women hate ma’am too. Times change, so does language. Titles are classist and outdated. Just don’t use them! (I realize many people have been trained to use sir/ma’am, especially while working customer service jobs. I try to be understanding, but please let me shop in peace!)
