@biancotitanio @stina_marie @horror I think is mostly because cable service was terrible (if existed at all) in europe (and mostly for sports); Netflix offered non-mainstream movies at a tempting price.

@stina_marie @biancotitanio @horror i have over 500 DVDs here, but they are starting to get long in the tooth. Started buying blurays but rebuying half of my collection again is painful (and expensive). Looked at streaming as an convenient alternative to discover movies I did not now if it was worth spending money for.

@biancotitanio @stina_marie @horror ohhh, good question. I used to go to FNAC for all my media related needs, and although it has reduced the size enormously, it still valid for new releases and the staff usually knows a bit about what they're selling. Mediamarkt was good for "bottom crawling", as they usually have baskets of discounted "we have too many" items, so it was a good chance for getting 70-90% discounted movies, and not all bad.

@biancotitanio @stina_marie @horror Nowadays I usually go to second hand stores, as many, many people sold their DVD collection for a pittance and you can find almost any movie and usually in good state. And online shopping of course, specially for tracking "never released in my country" DVDs.

@cliffwade my new 3d printer arrived and it sucks. It is blazing fast but very innacurate, and cannot be calibrated properly because the company made the "fantastic" decision of forcing you to use their propietary cloud product to interfase with it. Seriously considering on repacking it and returning it.

For me, it's yet another very busy day at work but hopefully we'll get things uploaded to the Play Store and back to working order.

I'll be playing some Fortnite later with the wife and likely some Diablo IV at some point as well.

@cliffwade the NAS setup is finally complete :)

Unfortunately I discovered that the 10 year old processor is woefully underpowered even just for NAS tasks: Poor guy sweats to keep pace with ZFS compression on large transfers, which limits the network speed to a bit just over 100MBps. Is not bad but transferring 8TB of data to the NAS has been... painful :D

I decided to add a team-based bomb defusal puzzle to the campaign I'm DMing and have been trying to figure out how to make sure it's easy enough to solve within the time limit because I wasn't sure what I'd do if the group failed.

I figured I should come up with something interesting that happens if they fail and now that thing is so much more interesting than the success case I'm now trying to figure out how to make sure it's too hard to solve.

    @jcrabapple @Zuckey78 i honestly don't understand what is with you USAns and iMessage. The rest of us use WhatsApp, telegram, signal, line... But I mention any of those to my USAn friends (except the first) and is like I'm speaking of a new social network instead of a messaging system! Heck, I talked to a friend and he did not know what an SMS was!

    I know cellphones developed differently there but I though smartphones equalized the market for everyone!

    @cliffwade i could tell you is for backups but honestly I am rebuilding my movie collection, as streaming services are upping the prices and removing content before I have time to watch it. So black is back.

    I also have close to 3tb of documents, mostly raw photos and 3d models, and my previous storage was "only" 8tb 🤣

    @cliffwade there are many things I enjoy that are not available legally in Spain, like the last episodes of duck tales (Disney posted everything except the Last 6 episodes!), Final Space, Infinity train, the first star wars trilogy without the modern crap added in the 00s, weird long out of print albums. Even if I wanted to be legal, some things cannot just be 🤔

    @flori @stina_marie @horror nope, was Spanish, and mirrors is a remake of a Korean movie. But the release would be around that time, we had a brief moment of great horror films, with "the devil's backbone", "abre los ojos", Rec...

    Also, while I am in "spanish horror films", I do recommend "la cabina". Again , not blood chilling horror, but that kind that leaves you feeling uneasy. 😊

    @flori @stina_marie @horror OK, so I decided to give Google another chance and I think it could be I am misremembering two Balagueró movies and mashing them together: Darkness (2002) and The Nameless (1999). I think I'm going to watch them again... Just for research sake 😉
