How did we survive as kids without a water bottle following us around everywhere we went?

“The cats were found dead with no apparent signs of injury and were from a resident population of ≈24 domestic cats that had been fed [unpasteurised] milk from sick cows. Clinical disease in cows on that farm was first noted on March 16; the cats became sick on March 17, and several cats died in a cluster during March 19–20. In total, >50% of the cats at that dairy became ill and died.”

“While we respectfully acknowledge the impact of an artist's work, focusing more on their contributions rather than their untimely demise helps honor their memory positively.”

The only way we can adequately manage risk in healthcare in a pandemic with an airborne pathogen is by having sustainable processes & resources in place to cope with a high volume of cases.

Stockpiles of disposable PPE expire & run out quickly, ramping up processes/skills takes too long, & we can’t rely on building infrastructure being brought up to scratch in a hurry.

Airborne precautions for respiratory tract pathogens needs to be an increasing part of our healthcare routine.

“Vapes were sold to governments & communities around the world as a therapeutic good: a product that could help hardened smokers kick the habit.
If vapes are therapeutic goods then it is entirely appropriate that Australia should regulate them as therapeutic goods, instead of allowing them to be sold alongside chocolate bars in convenience stores, often down the road from schools.
One in 6 high school students, & 1 in 4 young Australians aged between 18 & 24 are vaping.”

Ventilation can reduce exposure to respiratory viruses in indoor spaces.

“Steps for cleaner air to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses can be taken any time, especially when:
• Respiratory viruses are causing a lot of illness in your community.
• You or those around you were recently exposed to a respiratory virus, are sick, or are recovering.
• You or the people around you have risk factors for severe illness”

This part of the message should be emphasised.
We need a cultural shift where we take steps to reduce risk to those around us when we’re unable to work from home when sick.
COVID-19 isn’t the only communicable disease for which wearing a #bettermask when :

  1. sick or
  2. a close contact of someone unwell at home

may help reduce transmission.

Getting close to the ideal disposable #mask for source control in (my) children. A modified KF94 with cord locks to help secure it more firmly plus contoured nose bridge pads to reduce reliance on an adequately bent nose wire.

CDC seeks to update guidance to reflect recognition of aerosol viral spread.

Imagine being sent into a COVID ward, being given a blue medical mask and being told “this will protect you.” and then suffering long term consequences of COVID-19 limiting your ability to work.

We cannot again be put in the position where limited resources for respiratory protection bias policy decision-making.

Respiratory protection should be an ongoing and increasing component of healthcare OH&S to maintain competency and supply chains.

The term “Health care seeking behaviour” is well defined as “any action undertaken by individuals who perceive themselves to have a health problem or to be ill for the purpose of finding an appropriate remedy.”
It’s used to understand and research positive behaviour change in the context of illness to achieve better health outcomes.
Seeing many accounts on social media becoming avoidably upset about this phrase being used by NSW Health Dept appropriately in the context of .

Many hospitals I work in have a policy that for a few days after returning from a SARS-CoV2 infection staff need to wear a fit-tested respirator as source control whilst at work.
This recognition of respirators’ utility as source control should be considered to help reduce nosocomial transmission from staff of other pathogens found in the respiratory tract.
