I realized I can't keep up on reading my timeline chronologically. Either I follow too many people, or y'all post too much. 🤣

Either way, I clearly need to figure out a different way to keep up. Maybe lists?

I already use the hashtags tab on my mobile client and notifications from the people I really want to see posts quickly.

What else can I do?

PieterPeach,
@PieterPeach@mastodon.social avatar

@badnetmask try “Tag groups” on @IceCubesApp. It creates a stream based on a selection of hashtags rather than just one. It’s very useful.

CDC seeks to update guidance to reflect recognition of aerosol viral spread.

“The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has asked the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) to clarify its guideline on isolation precautions to reflect the "widespread recognition" that respiratory viruses spread primarily through aerosols, according to a CDC blog post this week.”

@WizardBear finding the right respirator for the individual to ensure correct and comfortable fit is incredibly important and requires a respiratory protection program to ensure this happens. Making sure the right respirators are then available is the next step. This is what I saw this morning walking into work at one of the hospitals I work in and should be the standard going forward.

PieterPeach,
@PieterPeach@mastodon.social avatar

@migriverat the trick will be finding an appropriate balance where measures that are practical and reasonable can be implemented.
There aren’t sufficient single occupancy negative pressure rooms in hospitals to house every patient with confirmed or suspected respiratory tract infections.
There will need to be an intermediate and potentially flexible protocol that involves droplet precautions enhanced with respiratory protection plus enhanced environmental controls like ventilation/filtration.

Imagine being sent into a COVID ward, being given a blue medical mask and being told “this will protect you.” and then suffering long term consequences of COVID-19 limiting your ability to work.

We cannot again be put in the position where limited resources for respiratory protection bias policy decision-making.

Respiratory protection should be an ongoing and increasing component of healthcare OH&S to maintain competency and supply chains.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has forever changed the approach we take in healthcare settings to protect healthcare personnel, patients, and others from transmission of respiratory infections. Experimental and observational data show that an important pathway for transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) is via inhalation of small particles in the air generated by infected individuals.“

The term “Health care seeking behaviour” is well defined as “any action undertaken by individuals who perceive themselves to have a health problem or to be ill for the purpose of finding an appropriate remedy.”
It’s used to understand and research positive behaviour change in the context of illness to achieve better health outcomes.

@failedLyndonLaRouchite yes, copayments (even very small ones) and whether they increase the sustainability of healthcare resource utilisation are another well researched area in public health, both in developed and developing countries.

people: anyone know how I can find the CADR of a Taotronics TT-AP005 at each of the different speeds? All the sources I'm finding list only one CADR, but there are multiple speeds. There's nothing in the booklet that came with the device.

(This isn't a product rec request, I'm seeking info about the item I already have on hand)

PieterPeach,
@PieterPeach@mastodon.social avatar

@ImpudentStrumpet This is the estimated CADR at each fan speed using data from the manufacturer on wind velocity at each fan speed.

It can both be true that we can see prolonged immune dysregulation in a minority subset of people following SARS-CoV-2 infection & that SARS-CoV-2 is not as consequential as HIV infection at the individual or population level.
There is much we are learning about the impact of viruses in circulation before the pandemic (EBV, Measles) that suggest viral infections are not helpful & that broadly applied, reasonable & practical interventions may help mitigate those impacts.

Any recommendations on air purifier that's corded (so might have some efficacy)... but light enough to bring into the office for the day?

PieterPeach,
@PieterPeach@mastodon.social avatar

@sarahmare good thought. The problem is the more portable a device the less likely it is to have an impact on room scale particle reduction. The lightest and highest CADR devices for their noise level seem to be the PC fan devices.

PieterPeach,
@PieterPeach@mastodon.social avatar

@sarahmare you won’t get anything particularly useful for room scale clearance at that weight unfortunately.

PieterPeach,
@PieterPeach@mastodon.social avatar

@OskarImKeller @mackayim2022 We could do with a consumer designed respirator that has an indicator of fit as part of its design, like a concave rubber membrane that inverts at a given pressure drop that correlates with a correct fit.
