It's the most wonderful time of the year!

No, it's not Christmas; it's TetraLogical week.

As we speak, our merry band of accessibility aficionados are flocking from all corners of the UK to congregate, plan, debate, and have some fun too.

We lock ourselves in a room and don't come out until we've masterminded huge plans for the accessibility world (or if someone needs tea).

It's a treat to be together, especially during this week; a hugely important day for us and our industry.

Do you feel confident using Tabindex="0" correctly?

Tabindex="0" enhances keyboard accessibility for non-focusable content, primarily for custom interactive controls. However, overuse can confuse users, especially those reliant on screen readers.

In our latest blog post, Principal Accessibility Specialist Graeme Coleman dives into the proper role, accessible naming, and specific exceptions, all of which are vital for clarity for people using assistive technology.

WCAG goes beyond standards, advocating for inclusivity in design. Integrating these principles benefits all users, including those with neurodivergence, often overlooked in design.

In the latest TetraLogical blog post, @tink discusses the potential role of generative AI in writing accessible code and how useful these tools actually are.

Léonie compares responses from three generative AI tools - Bard (now Gemini) from Google, ChatGPT from OpenAI, and Fix My Code from Userway - when asked about accessible code.

2023 has been a massive year at TetraLogical, and we're immensely proud of what our team has achieved!

We welcomed four new additions to our team: Alistair Duggin, Gez Lemon, Steven Faulkner, and Demelza Feltham. They bring decades of experience and a wealth of specialised accessibility knowledge.

TetraLogical,
@TetraLogical@a11y.social avatar

We had a company trip to Toronto, and we all met up at the conference, where we had the pleasure of supporting live talks by Patrick H. Lauke, Léonie Watson, and Steven Faulkner.

Léonie, as always, made a huge impact through a range of talks and conferences across the globe. These included talks at CSS Day conference, WebExpo, CSS Cafe, and the RNIB Tech Talk podcast.

TetraLogical,
@TetraLogical@a11y.social avatar

The rest of the team was also busy too:

  • Joe Lamyman gave a talk on Introduction to XR Accessibility at the The Open University's XR Accessibility Workshop.

  • Henny Swan delivered another popular workshop for The School of UX

  • Patrick H. Lauke and Graeme Coleman led a packed webinar on the changes brought in by WCAG 2.2.

TetraLogical,
@TetraLogical@a11y.social avatar

Noteworthy individual achievements also marked this year as a successful one.

Felicity Miners-Jones attained her PMP qualification from the Project Management Institute, Alistair Duggin excelled at the Figma Design System Bootcamp, and Henny Swan shared a wealth of knowledge following her selection for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses course last year.

TetraLogical,
@TetraLogical@a11y.social avatar

Across the team, we continue contributing to the broader conversation surrounding accessibility. Léonie Watson is a member of the W3C board, lots of the team contribute regularly to open-source projects, and we are also members of an assortment of W3C working groups including the Accessibility Guidelines Working Group (AGWG), and Pointer Events Working Group.

TetraLogical,
@TetraLogical@a11y.social avatar

Steven Faulkner is particularly active and involved in a range of working groups (WGs), including AGWG, The Accessible Platform Architectures WG, Browser Testing and Tools WG, Web Applications WG, as well as community groups ACT Rules, Open UI, and Web Platform Incubator.

Thank you to our team, our customers, our friends, and our community. Wishing you all the best for 2024.

We are delighted to welcome @SteveFaulkner to TetraLogical as our fourth Director.

To those of you working in accessibility, Steve needs no introduction, but to those who don’t, Steve is a big deal.

We’ve lost count of the years, but suffice it to say Steve was there at the very beginning of web accessibility and has been a driving force behind a lot of the education and understanding that the industry has around WAI-ARIA, screen readers, and HTML5.
