Sometimes there's nothing better than a good scratch... Lopa the vixen in the garden. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

One very sleepy fox out in the garden enjoying the sun. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

In the quiet hours of the night I often wonder how sheep scratch their nose. Now I know.

When Lopa gets worried by the other foxes in the vicinity she tends to go for the high ground, or in our case up on to the roof. Caught her doing this last night when something spooked her and she hopped up on to our garage. She gets a good view of the garden from there. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

This is Lopa the vixen last night, sitting quietly and patiently on our patio. There was a second fox, who she seemed to be steering clear of, lurking at the back of the garden. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

As vaguely promised a few days ago I've tried to get some night photos of Lopa. Nothing great, but I did manage one of her sitting down on the patio. I'll try get something better over the next week http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

If you're a regular viewer, you won't be surprised to learn that I have a bit of an obsession with photographing the dragonflies in our garden 🐲🪰

Every picture is different & often challenging to capture, but sometimes true magic happens 🧙‍♂️

For me, this is one of those photos, a female common darter (Sympetrum striolatum) caught in the light & with just the right amount of depth of focus 🙂

@markmccaughrean That's really nice. Great composition and the shallow focus works well.

Today's fox photo... taken earlier in the week. I must take more night photos of her. It's quite a while since I've done that. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

No great surprises here really. "Urban foxes bolder but not smarter than rural ones, study suggests"

Yesterday's photo was Lopa asleep. Today's photo shows her rapid transition to full fox alertness. Or maybe not! http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

Some sunshine today! Finally. And Lopa finds herself one of the warmer and drier spots in the garden, on a raised bed that in a former life formed the foundations for a greenhouse. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

More wind and rain today, but the forecast for the coming week looks a little better. We could do with it! Meanwhile, this is Lopa during the one decent day we had this week. A nice pose as she looks back over her shoulder... too lazy to actually move. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

We're still blighted with near constant rainfall, so this is one from a few days ago. A slightly damp Lopa out in a brief break in the weather in the middle of the day. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

We've had so much rain lately that it was inevitable that Lopa would eventually show up, soaked! Here are a couple from lunchtime today. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

One of the local cats that uses our garden as a cut through is a very skilled hunter. She often comes through with mice but today she turned up with a small bird (which is not great, I know). Unlike many domestic cats she does at least eat her prey. Anyway I got a good sequence of photos - here's a couple (quite graphic.

close-up of a black and white domestic cat eating a small bird, with feathers and the birds feet visible in the cat's mouth.

Here's a couple more photos of Lopa the wandering through the . As you can see, the lawn is more like a meadow of wild flowers at the moment. In the second photo she's jumping down from the lawn area to the patio outside our back door. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

We had everything from sunshine to downpours today, but in the sunny break Lopa turned up and proved an excellent guest. She spent quite a while wandering around the garden, before settling down for a well earned rest. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

I spotted this young fox out in teh street today. It looks like one of this year's cubs, probably around 4-5 months old. Clearly mature enough to have scavenged some food. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

Among her many traits and habits, eating grass is a particular one that Lopa enjoys. And especially from this planter. She's about to tuck in to those straggly bits of weed that are sticking out of it. http://www.permuted.org.uk/photography/fox-of-the-day/

Lots of butterflies in the garden today: small whites, meadow browns, red admirals, and this beautiful peacock.
