Oof. Trying to figure out how to clean out my old place with my friend still living there. There's enough stuff here to overfill my current house if it were completely empty, and it definitely is not empty either.

Here's a picture of my old bedroom which has turned into a storage of sorts. Some of this can be thrown out.. But a lot of this is e.g new building materials, cables and powerstrips and fiber and what not else, bins and buckets and bags, furniture and parts thereof, clothing, etc etc.

Another picture underneath the tablebunk bed, showing bins full of stuff, cables, parts, other things

aiBIOS™
First-of-its-Kind “Smart BIOS” Harnesses AI Capabilities to Deliver Configurability and User Experience Improvements

I swear just thinking about the word "AI" fries some people's brains

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@volpeon yea like BAIOS was right there and they still didnt smh

also lol did they go back in time, I haven't seen a real BIOS in years, it's all UEFI now which makes it possible to run normal software there in the first place, if they got it working in an actual BIOS then dam that's impressive, but it's probably just wrongly named lmao

https://youtu.be/xCBrtopAG80 good talk about a "why x86 needs to die" article, rectifying some common misconceptions, explaining what's wrong and why x86 does have some issues, but why "many instructions bad" is wrong and just inherent to popular architectures that need to compete, comparing to risc-V and ARM.

Lot of very in depth explanation of cpu instruction decoders and schedulers in a great easy to follow way, it's a pretty good talk

if people think google is a bad search engine, clearly they've never tried to find a specific mod in the steam workshop for a popular game

my last post actually made me think; how prepared are you all?

as in,

  • if you get a burn/cut/etc, where's your medkit?

  • If there's a fire that needs extinguishing NOW, what's your fire extinguisher?
    (Everyone has one, i.e the thing you grab, and if that extinguisher causes hot oil explosions or short circuits then it's a shitty fire extinguisher.)

  • If there's a nuclear incident, where're your iodine tablets? (okay maybe I'm a bit of a prepper but they won't do much for you 9h too late 🤔)

pro tip: if you put honey in the microwave for 10 seconds at 1kw, make sure that that's the appropriate amount of energy for the amount of honey leftover in the container

pro tip 2: when opening a bottle which just contained a boiling liquid, make sure you open it upward and aimed away from you, not downward, even if the honey container is made to be opened with the opening facing downwards

pro tip 3: zinc ointment is great for mild burns, make sure you have some at home before you need it

I wonder how much governments paid for the MS Recall backdoor, and I wonder if people are going to ponder the irony when Microsoft recalls Recall if they do. and if not then well darn that must've been some sweet funding to compensate for the losses

why do some people not close/turn off the screen of their phones? or is that just my folks? they're constantly leaving voice messages and pocketdialing or show up as online and 'typing' simply because they closed the wallet thing they put their phone in and consider this enough of an action? I mean I kinda get it, but then get a samsung flip thing or whatever, not an iphone 😭

My charge from last night on a 30A charger (7.2 kW at 240V).

This is why I'm always harping on the "stop installing giant charger circuits" thing! Even this is a luxury - I only charge about weekly or if I make a long trip.

For USians, a 10 gauge run of wiring will deliver 5 kW sustained. You'll only ever think that's slow if you drive a TON and/or have a really big vehicle.

Especially if you're thinking of DIYing an install, 10 gauge is so much easier to deal with.

anthropy, (edited )
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@TechConnectify not to mention how much more strain it puts on the grid if everyone wants these fast chargers and then only uses them for short unsustainable peaks all at the same time, rather than a marginally slower charge that allows for literally 10x the people to charge at the same time without issues
