I messed up, accidentally broke off the dumpvalve instead of nulling it. It's very null now, and very good at dumping. Tried to fix it with ducttape, but...

Same area but the hole has been wrapped with ducttape (poorly)

Reminder for people who can't find a political candidate to represent them:

It's not supposed to represent you, it's supposed to be the least evil choice you manage to pick, and not picking anything, will usually result in the most inconvenient choice being picked for you.

Not voting is not a signal, it's aiming a gun at your own foot and giving someone else the trigger.

This also goes if your lesser-evil option has done very evil things. Lesser evil doesn't imply lawful good, unfortunately 😶

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

like at very least vote for a party you don't think makes any chance.

Not voting is a waste of a very hard fought-for right, that not all of this world has available to them.

Imagine yourself in a country that would love to have these rights to vote even for the most imperfect candidate that's not literally a dictator, but is simply not able to vote because the dictator made it illegal. This could be you, if you let it slip for long enough.

Is it fun to think about that? No. Don't. Just vote

I have a theory that people who dislike the caps attached to bottles, actually don't push the cap away far enough to click into resting position on the side, causing it to press against their face when they try drink from the bottle.

I don't see any other reason to dislike them anyway, if you use them properly they don't get in the way, it means you never have to look for or place the cap anywhere while pouring, you can't lose the cap, it means you can drink with one hand while e.g biking, etc🤷

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@maruno I mean fair, there are some shitty ones, though in my personal experience I mostly had good ones knock on wood, the good ones are only an improvement in my experience.

Also I don't know how true that more plastic bit is, sure you have tiny plasticy wires to hold the cap attached to the ring underneath, but it's so little plastic you could probably even take it from the cap itself without loss of functionality? It doesn't seem like much of an argument, esp considering less littering 🤔

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@maruno do you have any sources on how much more plastic it is? I cannot imagine it being more than 5-10% extra plastic on those tiny caps, if even that much, which again you probably could take from the cap itself without losing structural integrity.

Also yes I've thrown away plenty bottlecaps left in nature, people are brainless pigs when it comes to littering and sometimes they need to be helped, and honestly it only gave me advantages so idk why I'd be against it, I miss them when not there

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@maruno also we HAVE a proper bottle disposal system, even for cans these days, yet people still manage to lose the cap and then bring the cap-less bottle to recycling 😅

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@maruno this assumes people leave the cap attached when they grabbed a drink on their way home or whatever, or even care to bring it to recycling to begin with, and good luck "changing society" there because if Dutch people can't be convinced with money back per bottle/can then it really is a tough motherfucker to change in people's minds lol

Idk, personally the bottle cap attachment bit is an improvement, I never had issues with it and it only gave me new features, but that's just me I guess

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@maruno I don't see numbers there, only opinions, some of which get contradicted later on by the article itself, like how they pose that "bottles used to get collected without caps, so there's danger when they get disposed" (?? how), and then later admit "though some bottles already had attached caps ahead of the mandate".

Here's a counter article https://www.bottlebill.org/images/PDF/Dutch%20study%20on%20caps_Doppenrapport_EN_2017_DEF_small.pdf this flood of bottlecaps comes from somewhere

I can't find any source that shows how much extra it costs, just guestimates.

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@maruno fine, agree to disagree it is then :P I think they're a great feature I'd love to see on bottles without the EU having to first tell people to do things that make sense, but that's just me apparently x3
