Hey y'all. Today's my birthday, and unfortunately I'm starting today off pretty deep in overdraft. I was able to float myself for most of April and May thankfully, but the work's run out again, and with my anxiety being absolutely through the roof lately, I'm not confident I can get back to things soon.

If you could, it would mean a lot to me if you could help out. I'm not looking for anything fancy, I just want to cover my rent and groceries and health insurance and stuff for a little while.

We had a minor Sidekiq outage that impacted federation with other servers, as our secrets failed to properly sync with Kubernetes. We have manually rectified the issue and are investigating why authentication with Vault is failing.

When I signed up, I held my nose and expressed my discontent at Telegram by selecting a username that's a dig at MTProto's inherent insecurity against chosen ciphertext attacks: IND_CCA3_Insecure. I've come down pretty hard on FWA this weekend (and imo justifiably so, because it upsets me dearly to think that I'd be shut out of such an experience because of policy failings and general fandom apathy), but one BIG thing they've done right are these streams that have run all weekend and the VR portal that accompanies them.

The amount of work that goes into building a VR experience that mirrors the screens that folks IRL are seeing into screens in VR is impressive. The fact that they stream every musical performance over the whole weekend and keep these portals up does a lot to make at least that part of the con accessible to people who have to stay home for one reason or another.

I've been a huge proponent of streaming cons since before I was one of the ones doing it in the pony con era.

This is one thing FWA has, with WaterWolf and Furality's help, absolutely nailed, and other cons should mirror.

Remember my toot the other day about how package managers should all make remove and uninstall aliases of each other because I keep forgetting which one is the right one for that specific package manager?

Well, I looked into it for Composer (the PHP package manager) and it turned out nobody had ever bothered to ask about this in the entire history of the project, so I submitted a pull request and today it got merged with "Sure, why not".

So there. Now NPM and Composer both don't care which you use. Ranty toots moving the world forward again. :P

Came up in a discussion, and I think it's an important point: You don't need to write software to be mass marketable. It can be niche, weird and fun and as long as it speaks the common protocol, who gives a fuck if only you and some friends use it :)

We have an unhealthy obsession with naming things "sensibly" and making sure it's marketable.

Sod that, be fun with it! It's for you and your community first.
