    @victor Yes, that is very true. It has a lot more going for it than a typical suburban shopping mall.

    I can count myself as helping to keep it alive because we ate in the food court when we were there. 🤣

    @victor Yeah, installing the update itself doesn't take too long, but it always takes 30 minutes-1 hour to do the "optimizing your phone" stage.

    At least after they went to an A/B partition system you can still use your phone during the update. It just installs the update on one partition while you are using the other partition and when it's done you reboot into the update.

    @victor That makes sense. It just shows that like computers all smartphone platforms are essentially the same. Lol

    Funnily enough, if you manually flash the update file using ADB it goes much faster. However, you cannot use the phone while it's updating if you do it that way.

    It's honestly disgusting that whale hunting is still legal in any jurisdiction. There's absolutely zero need for it with modern technology, and most whales are already endangered from hundreds of years of whaling.

    @taylorlorenz So he can't pay his rent or cloud infrastructure bills but he's got the money to pay fascists to spew their hate speech? Sounds about right. I'm so glad I'm no longer there. It sounds like an absolute hellscape.

    @thelinuxEXP I really like the idea of it, but I worry if the company is going to be around long enough to support the laptop in the long term.

    Why? The laptop business is notorious for having razor thin margins and being a hard business to break into without offering tweaked generic laptops made by an ODM.

    @lowqualityfacts I tend to make fun of these "sales" as well, but if you look carefully you can find a really good deal.

    We replaced our TV a year ago on prime day. We got a TCL 55" QLED for $350 and it was normally a $700 TV.

    When Red Hat decided to put their open source code behind a paywall it left a terrible taste in my mouth. I've been using and for years, but it was enough to push me to install TW on my main desktop.

    I've been using it for a week and so far I am really liking it. The zypper package manager is sooo much faster than dnf for one. YasT is a really neat tool to have and I like they have properly implemented btrfs snapshots.

    🤔 Do bicycles create empathy? Or do people that care about other people, tend to care about bikes?

    Why is there such a big overlap between "bike infrastructure radicalized people," and "people that care about people that are different than themselves?"

    Why is there such a low overlap between "people with trash hateful takes" and "people that want more bike infrastructure?"

    @ZuriBella @brett @mekkaokereke It's unfortunate that the US was built around the automobile. The walkable cities in Europe are brilliant. Here in the US you basically need to have a car or you'll be severely disadvantaged. At the very least we need to improve public transportation.

    I may be off base here, but I keep hearing people say is confusing and I have no clue how anyone could possibly feel that way.

    It's really not that complicated. Once you pick the server you want to create your account on it is pretty straightforward. Just like any other microblog network.

    I also keep hearing the misconception that you can't follow people who aren't on your instance. How has it gotten this reputation? It seems really easy to me.

I am rooting for a completely federated future for social networks. It just fits the original idea of the internet so perfectly.

    @mentallyalex Yeah, I agree. Without an algorithm you really need to go out of your way to discover content, but boosts really do help quite a bit.
