The official approval of these trains for 🇧🇪 and 🇳🇱 is in, so nothing stands in the way of starting on 15/16 June. For the Amsterdam line, that's right after the month-long detour via (single-track) Venlo.

Great news for iPhone (and Apple Watch) users: the latest iOS update now allows you to use the device as a 🇫🇷 Paris Navigo Pass - no need for a physical card, especially handy for those just arriving (last month there was a 45-minute queue for the card machines at the Gare du Nord...)

https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-and-ile-de-france-mobilites-introduce-navigo-for-iphone-and-apple-watch/

@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

Recharging the physical card was already possible from iPhones, and Android users could also already use the RATP app + NFC instead of the separate card.

Unfortunately, point-to-point tickets for the RER outside central Paris still requires the purchase of a paper ticket (or a day pass)

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

@brunogirin on some stations you need the ticket (or card) to get out. But they could easily add the function to buy the point-to-point ticket in the app and have you upload it on the card, as they allow you to do with single tickets, multipass, day and week passes.

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

@brunogirin in the Navigo case they know, as all tickets are pre-purchased (unlike other cities like London, Brussels, Netherlands) where you use your bank card directly. There’s no ‘money’ credit on a Navigo card (physical or now virtual), only tickets.

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

@brunogirin but your point is valid when you have both (e.g. a multifare for central Paris) + a RER ticket

We tried another European : the 🇫🇷 Intercité de Nuit, from Paris to Latour de Carol in the Pyrenees. From there, Catalan 'Rodalies' depart for Barcelona. The amazing Man in Seat 61 has further details for this route: https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/paris-to-barcelona-by-sleeper-train.htm

The four of us had a 4-person compartment (=1st class): OK beds, handy sleeping bag, wifi and power sockets on board. Comfort therefore fine, were it not for the announcements, and the lack of coffee....
So a 7/10

Inside door of train. Destination sign shows Latour de Carol
Latour de Carol station with four different trains in view: on the far left the yellow 'petit train jaune', next to it the night train from Paris, in the centre of the image the orange Rodalies local Catalan train and on the right part of a French regional train.

Green light for Europe's first zone to ban diesel and petrol cars: from 2025, the centre of Stockholm will be free of tailpipe emissions.

The announcement of the European Commission's approval comes on the 1st anniversary of the 2035 CO2 targets (for new cars and vans).

The average turnkey price of a typical 7 kWp household system in has dropped to 7.700 €, as demand slowed down and there are no more shortages in component supply or skilled installation personnel.

Households can also apply for a 40% tax rebate on the installation work, which probably brings the total cost to below 1 €/Wp.

Demand for batteries and DSM automation exceeds expectations. There is no feed-in tariff so consumers try to avoid feed-in.

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

@henrihorn so what’s the renumeration for feed-in? Wholesale energy price? The (translated)article says: “because the electricity sold to the electricity grid is comparatively poorly compensated”.

So the first problem: the on board announcement in the ICE telling us we can change onto a Eurostar to Brussels is wrong

No mention of Railteam HOTNAT. We’re told we need a reservation for it, that theoretically we get at the Reisezentrum

Let’s see what happens when I get to the Reisezentrum

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

@jon why? Would HOTNAT downgrade your ticket? Wouldn’t it just be in the same class?

It is great to see heat pump manufacturers working with innovators to make both new and existing heat pumps smarter: preventing overheating and underheating, and responding to (dynamic) energy prices - saving energy, emissions, the grid and money.

“Public subsidies for clean energy technologies are usually offered to make them cost competitive with fossil fuel technologies,” @janrosenow tells Hydrogen Insight.
“The suggestion that public subsidies should be offered to create cost parity between hydrogen vehicles and electric vehicles is misguided and would be a misallocation of scarce public funds better spent where they are needed.”

🇬🇧Demand flexibility modelling by 🐙Centre for Net Zero shows:

"EV flexibility can absorb over 15TWh of otherwise wasted wind and solar by 2035; similar levels of fossil fuel generation are prevented."

One of the key takeaways: make smart charging the default now

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

The (not so) funny thing is that the “Verbrenner-Aus" was a logical step, following the path of industry (which was clearly heading in this direction with electrification), member states (several had already announced ICE phase-out dates) and a majority in the European Parliament, in which a liberal (!) led the negotiations (against the EPP). E-Fuels (and EVs) are not in her portfolio, btw.

burger_jaap,
@burger_jaap@mastodon.social avatar

And now (at least) three German parties have a revisionist view of the future of the car: AFD, CDU/CSU and FDP.
Together with allies such as the Italian, Spanish, Polish, Hungarian, French and Dutch far-right, they can - and probably will - try to roll back Europe's 2035 CO2 target. Whose interests will they serve? Europe's car industry will lose global competition, fuel will come from abroad instead of being produced domestically.

Even in Germany stations are being closed. How much money has been spent to build and operate these stations (and how much money has been made selling hydrogen), and how much energy (direct electricity and H2 gas) has been delivered to the station and actually delivered to cars? Do I really want to know? 🙈🙉🙊
