“Dr. Kellan Baker, Executive Director of Whitman-Walker Institute, and an expert in transgender health, says transgender people — like all people — deserve access to necessary medical care that’s backed by decades of scientific and medical evidence. “
“He noted that the May 15th committee hearing featured extensive and intentional distortions of this evidence base in an attempt to mislead the American public and further advance the medically unsound and discriminatory bans on this care that are currently on the books in more than 20 states.”
@pluralistic@ChrisMayLA6 I’m wearing a very basic plain colour T-shirt from M&S. some bright spark decided to print branding direct on the fabric where a neck label would usually go. It’s obviously the save money. The trouble is that after one wash at 40 degrees the white printed lettering printed itself as a whitish smear on the outside of the fabric at bust level, meaning that after one wash it couldn’t be used as smart wear. That’s a new low in enshitification.
I sometimes thought my father thought he could't die while he still had books on his pending pile (a stab at immortality I seem to be replicating)... so, it was strangely touching to see Tom Gauld has had similar thoughts.
@jrbee@ChrisMayLA6@bookstodon Just remember that some books you lay down for the future may ultimately turn out to be the literary equivalent of corked!
... The complete disregard for how an institution's actions & inactions impact on those at the bottom of the 'pyramid' & the subsequent attempt to evade responsibility for the harm caused when publicised.
(you'll have other you'd like to add to the list, I'm sure)
A damning picture of misused power & disregard for others.
@katiefenn@goatsarah Yeah. When you’ve stashed more money than you and your loved ones could possibly spend and you’re still compelled to go on screwing others to keep on stashing then it’s an indication of a hole inside that just can’t be filled. These people have a sickness and, far from wealth buying them freedom, it becomes a monster that takes them over and ensures they can’t be happy with ‘enough’.
I can’t believe it. I went to use the PatientAccess app and suddenly, without much explanation, it wants me to CHOOSE and set up an authenticator app — making the service even harder to log in to than it already was. The NHS and its surrogates are so obsessed with security (far more than banks) to the extent they’re making their useless app, with almost zero functionality, practically unusable. Suppose I was in a panic to book an appointment? This is a huge senseless barrier to usability.
I wouldn’t mind if there was much you can do when you sign in to PatientAccess but, apart from reordering repeat meds and booking an appointment, there’s precious little. So why the Fort Knox obsession? It’s bad enough that the app doesn’t stay logged in between repeat meds orders. It has notifications that won’t go away. It’s clunky. The only thing it offers is a pathological level of security which is going to become more of a barrier the more I age.
OK… An update. I swiftly determined that authenticator apps like Microsoft Authenticator want to take over and manage all your login credentials, which apple’s Passwords/Keychain feature does far more securely and across devices, so I wasn’t having any of that nonsense. So then I went looking to see whether Apple had implemented an authenticator in Apple Passwords. Turns out it does. So then to set it up PatientAccess displayed a QR code which it wanted me to point the camera of my iPhone at, ..
..except that I was using Passwords on the same iPhone. So, I had to screengrab the QR code, let iCloud sync it to my iPad and then I could do the camera thing. Did nobody ever think that through. Anyway, that worked and I’m back in. However, I was using the lifetime skills from two degrees in Computer Science and work as an IT consultant and I really wasn’t sure what I was doing. Had I been ill it would’ve been a non starter. These developers need taking out to be shot. Or poke their eyes out..
@GeraldKutney As the first mass deaths would be likely to occur in the hottest and most humid equatorial band I suspect that there are some sociopath billionaires who’ll think that the right kind of people are dying so it still doesn’t matter. Allowing mass death through deliberate climate neglect is the kind of racist wet dream that is bound to appeal to some.
Opinion: No, Dr Cass, Porn Will Not Make You trans.
The more Cass get interviewed, the more she reveals of herself. Ask any trans woman and we’ll tell you how a scary number of cisgender people harbour erotic fantasies about us. We are constantly sexualised. There’s a whole market in porn about trans women made by cis men for cis men’s consumption. Casting US as the porn junkies is just another example of cis projection.
If I sound indignant it’s because I effing well am. I can only speak for myself but there really is no porn in this tired old woman’s life and there never has been because (and this will break many hearts) erotica just don’t float my boat, let alone propel it. I transitioned because I’m trans and womanhood fitted me like a glove. The sooner the creepy wing of cisgender humanity get help for whatever drives their projections, the better for the whole world’s sake. Give me strength!
“It explains why you get pathologized and called everything from a doomer to a snowflake for caring about anything but yourself” https://www.okdoomer.io/thebadguys/
@taylorlorenz “It takes a lot out of you to be respectful to idiots all day long, especially when many of them go out of their way to do you harm.” So true.
Just a tip: If NHS England succeeds in shutting down alternative routes for trans people to buy cross sex hormones that are legal to buy over the counter in other countries then they will have completed a proof of concept of the means to shut down unofficial ways of buying oral contraceptives and morning after pills. They’ve already tested how to shut down a crucial one of its kind clinic by painting it as scary…
…You may think a British government wouldn’t do that to things cisgender people have had for sixty years but the right’s politics have shifted so dramatically that the possibility is now there. As we’ve told folks many times, they practice first on the trans people in the belief that nobody cares enough about us to step in.
