I just bought a new (to me) coat at the thrift store. New, it retails for $300, but I only paid $25.

Still, it's the most that I've spent on a single item of clothing in years and I'm trying not to feel guilty for such self-indulgence.

A friend's little girl told me how she saved some worms that were stuck in a rain puddle by moving them to the grass.

I told her about the 100s of worms that sought safety on our patio during the rain and how I swept them all off after they shriveled up and died.

Kids are fun to talk to.

I will usually avoid going to the hospital emergency if the reason is 'only' because of debilitating pain.

Pain is not their focus and they, hospitals, and the medical profession in general are not that good at dealing with it anyway.

IF there's something different about or than just the pain, that might indicate an immediate potentially life altering issue, Then I go.. but I still don't expect pain to play much part in their response.
A tricky balance.

@mentallyalex yep. Thankfully for most people, their severe pain is sudden and new, definitely enough to warrant concern and getting checked out.

Still, if the hospital doesn't find an immediate concern, they will usually leave it to the patient to deal with elsewhere.

For the chronic pain patient it's about the changes and subtle differences in the pain, or additional symptoms that count.. keen body awareness and understanding become key.
Pain by itself is not enough.

The two medical specialists appointments I had this week went well.
Well, in that there was clear open communication and understanding between us, and clarification of incorrect info that has been in my file and impeded care for years.

Oh, I'm still a rare mess of medical complications, but I improved my knowledge and left with plans for the months ahead.

In an act of optimism and hope, we even scheduled followup appointments for next year.

I honestly don't understand the anti vax movement. My cynical mind is thinking some group must have something to gain from convincing people to harm themselves and others, but I can't find any logical upside for anyone.

Is it simply to watch the world burn? Is it to discredit medical expertise in general? Or is it some stubborn misplaced sense of independence? Surely it can't simply be to thumb their noses at the "Woke"?

@mike When the world is changing, exposing cracks in their old false beliefs of the good old days and their own weaknesses, failures and inability to adapt.. acknowledging that, in fact, they are the problem and need to change, is too hard to accept.

I don't get why you're confused with Canadian measurements. It's pretty straightforward..

Weather temperature is in Celsius.
Cooking temperature is in Fahrenheit.

Food weight is in kilograms.
I am in pounds.

Speed is in kilometres.
Distance is in time.

My wife and I don't really fight over anything, figuring that most of the irritating things we may do, don't matter in the big picture.

This possibly works more in my favor. 🤔

However, I can sense her eyerolls without actually seeing them.
