A custom Date.timeAgo property (the inverse of the confusingly named timeIntervalSinceNow) is so useful — and so desperately needed in practice — that I forgot that I'd implemented it already, went to go write this extension, and happily found my previous work already done with exactly the same name.

It's like the programmer-feeling equivalent of taking out your winter coat for the first time this season and finding a $20 bill in the pocket from last year.

Hey American student loan holders: I am not an accountant, but look into consolidating your loans before the end of the year.

Especially if you took the loans out at different times and have some non-overlapping payment history, you could wind up getting a lot of money forgiven by doing so.

Using the same example above, if the loan with 50 months of time in repayment included January 2017 in repayment status but the loan with 100 months did not, the resulting consolidation loan might be credited with 101 months of payments. This can occur where borrowers relied on different repayment, forbearance, or deferment options on different loans for the same period. We will start processing loans that are eligible for forgiveness later this year. If you have loans with different counts and one of those loans qualifies for forgiveness, you may benefit from consolidating in order to get all of your loans forgiven at the same time. If you do, you will receive forgiveness because the consolidation loan will be credited with the longest amount of time in repayment.

If you ever visit Cambodia or Laos, which I have been lucky enough to do, you will learn a lot about why all of SE Asia is ecstatic about Kissinger's death.

There's a reasonably direct line from the illegal bombing of Cambodia to the Khmer Rouge's takeover, enabling their reign of terror that killed 1/4 of the Cambodian population and drove out or killed most folks who were educated.

There are still "bombies" from cluster munitions all over Laos, which kill or maim people on a regular basis.

Dad’s CT came back clean so he’s out of the hospital, and I made my flight home. One of the cats left me an “editorial comment” on the bedspread about how late their food was tonight (which…it was, so I can’t be that mad).

All’s well that ends well with the duvet in the wash, but I’ma be REAL glad when the odometer rolls over on this year.

My dad's home was destroyed by a massive flood in the city where I grew up and where he currently lives. It’s the worst flood in over 100 years, and he lost almost all of his possessions, including the equipment he uses for work. If anyone else is nuts enough to use withObservationTracking(), let me save you potentially a lot of time:

It only calls the onChange: block ONCE, BEFORE the first change. It does NOT provide continuous change notifications over time, and it works like a willSet, not a didSet.

Ugh. It would be kind of hard to get my father-in-law to change to a new Financial Advisor, but I kind of want to fire his on the spot for emailing an unprotected PDF already filled in my wife and my address/phone/birthdays/DL#s - and asking us to add SSNs and some other info and email it back.
