Finnish government is planning to see if it can ban&criminalize the symbols of

Lock me up then.

I think it's time people really started remembering who was put in camps in Nazi Germany. Because we have been down this road before.

Neoliberal capitalism breeds fascism and authoritative control measures & this is what this is.

dianor,

They are trying to pass this under the smoke screen of "equality" work. They have spun anti-oppressive terms and concepts to muddy the waters and while they are saying this is about banning nazi symbols, all this other stuff is there too.

The sameness myth of Finns probably helps too and the deep finlandization propaganda that pretty much everyone here takes as gospel now. Not realizing that things have very much been spun a certain way. For decades and decades.

This is the ultimate both sides bs. This is authoritative power tripping.

This is it. The playbook the right wing has used bearing fruit.

dianor,

@danjac Those who very much know what they are doing probably do. Our history isn't pretty. But it is never talked about so here we are.

The communist were put into camps here in WW2 as well.

dianor,

@danjac The Lapua movement has been making a comeback in the last years.

I remember at school these kidnappings were just sort of clossed over with a kind of "and then this happened" vibe. Washing the fascism away has a long history in this country as well.

Not to mention the treatment of Karelian, Sami, Roma peoples or any marginalized group really. The mainstream fascism never left, it was just hidden under a lot of nationalism and the myth of sameness and equality.

This is an unmasking of sorts, very fittingly for the times. The pandemic revealed the people here for what they are already, just letting the less fortunate die.

Incredible mushroom my sister came upon today, had to share this to the .

As far as we can tell this is volvariella bombycina aka tree mushroom. Silkkituppisieni in Finnish.

A rare find in Finland. Sighting was made in Southern Finland.

Blowback, season 2. The Cuban revolution.

Two episodes in and what a revolution it was.

The covid vaccine making nation that sent all those healthcare professionals out to help others in solidarity.

They have persisted againts all this, it's kind of incredible.

dianor,

@Loukas I know right?

Listening to the stuggle and what they did feels incredible.

Wish I could visit and change thoughts about social work with folks from an actual socialist country. Might have to look into going on a brigade there.

Just cut my partners hair & beard.

+20years of being piss poor made me very good at this. You need a pair of scissors, a cheap trimmer and a comb.

He went to a local barber a few times in the last year, last time it was 45€ for the cut & beard stuff. They cut the beard in a way that ruined the shape. Like every time.

Most things I know and am very good at, I have learnt because I did not have much. Be it repairing our stuff, cooking on a budget or cutting hair.

All I am saying it that consuming and buying every little thing from food to in some ways self-awareness (looking at you self-monitoring apps & gagdets) isn't actually necessary.

But it does require time, time is the most valuable asset we have. Make sure you get properly compensated if you decide to sell it.

Work is a social construct. Especially the work we call "productive".

dianor,

And it sure would have been nice to learn this by choice, not because I had to (if I wanted my kid to be presentable in school). The one innovation capitalism sure does breed is surviving on too little.

We should also be able to choose to be barbers who have the time to do the work well and to do it by choice, not just for survival.

We should also be able to choose to use the services of a barber, not because we can't do something ourselves or don't have the time to do, but because they have the time and skill to do it better.

Looks to me like in our current Late Stage Capitalism none of these happen much at all.

dianor, to random

So let me get this straight. The "free market bros" of Finland are now planning to force manufacturers to "step up" their production of military stuff to feed the US war machine that is coming here? Maybe by taking over something, dare is say it, maybe even by nationalizing capitalist operations?

The line apparently goes "the market mechanism probably isn't enough".

Funny that. Sounds a lot like government doing stuff. Thought they were against that? But of course it's different because it's going to be done for "the right reasons".

I do hope the elaborate neoliberal mechanisms, laws and contracts that these very people have set up over the last decades prevent this. Because they sure are preventing anyone from nationalizing something like healthcare.

Le sigh.

I also hope the nato haws, like my own dad, live long enough to truly see what they have done. To see what their drive for this amazing "freedom" gets us.

Same goes for the "leftists" who said yes to this.

Sitting in the kitchen drinking my Saturday coffee and there's a squirrel in the tree in front of the window doing self-care.🐿

First there was a vigorous dry bath sort of situation. Little feet pointing into the sky as the wee guy rolled around in an old abandoned birds nest.

Then a lot of fur maintenance, it almost looks like these guys use their mouth as a sort of vacuum to get nasties out. Fascinating.

Weekends.❤

dianor,

@becha Oh I tried to take a video of the little guy in action, but it did not work out that well. But, here is a short clip: https://filebin.net/tocspxlqck4ydosv.

Zoom in to the fork in the tree, quality is poor.

If this happens again, I'll be better prepared.

Tip for anyone designing any household goods - people with are an untapped market of simplicity. We are never going to pair socks, separate colour and white clothes, or bother about temperate or spin rate. Just give us items with a big "wash" button. Same for tumble dryer - go until it's dry - we'll never iron.

And dishwasher - and just make that a big sink.

Also don't just beep once when finished. Keep annoying us until we remove it, especially laundry.

dianor,

@tanepiper This, I do not buy white clothes, these is just no point.

And also give us a kitchen with stuff in sight, the easier it is to access the more it will be used.

Also, hardly ever will I iron anything or change drapes more than once in ten years.

(We got a microwave where you can turn the beep off, it's the best.)

Normally when we post patents, they're late 19th/early 20th century objects for interfacing with vaginas.

This is neither, but we're going to tell you about it anyway.

This is the Apparatus For Facilitating The Birth Of A Child By Centrifugal Force, patented in 1965.

dianor,

@vagina_museum I got pretty far without cracking up, but the net and the attached visualization got me good.

Guys, we are literally doing this now. An old white dude think piece in our national news announced today that the hammer and the sickle are "fascist symbols". They are stirring up hate for the socialists & communists. The red scare is very much alive.

And this is not done by the "far right", but by the liberals and centrists.

Wake up! We have been here before.

(This quote has variations, but the message remains the same. No need to quote police this for me, ty.)

I saw a newspiece yesterday that basically blames China for all the drug shortages. And another the day before with the good old "but at what cost".

So here is a very good comment I read over at Hexbear and copied to my clipboard:

"The liberal version of history coincides with the reactionary version of history because they both refuse to question the premises of capitalism. That is they both agree more over capitalism and Western Hegemony than they disagree about specific cultural issues. They don't all have to be in the same room, coordinating on a narrative, because they all share the same boundaries of inquiry. So the same kind of stuff gets written without active coordination. This is a roundabout way to say they're all of the same class. They have class solidarity.

/1

dianor,

A liberal news source will talk about how good and downtrodden immigrants are. A conservative news source will talk about how all immigrants are drug dealers. But they don't disagree that there both needs to be immigration or that it needs to be regulated. A good real world example of this is Democrats flipping out over Trump's racism and then upping funding for "border security" and advocating for a tech wall.

Neither question the fundamental assumptions about immigration. Both advocate for the same idea, just in different abstractions.

Nobody actually thinks the person who writes a bleeding heart article gets up from their chair and sits at a different desk where they write about caravans of cartel members. Though you do get the same person/organization drifting into sounding like their opposition, like the NYT. Which illustrates, again, that they're the same class and ultimately share the same goals and fears.

I have no idea how peoples memory of the last years work anymore, but I just read a paper by our local public health and it's chilling.

Sort of skims over and casually states things like before the year 2022 children did have covid antibodies, but then in 2022 this shot up. Like it's some magical occurrence and not a choice that was very consciously made and pushed on us all.

They also have a section about how coronaviruses have been around forever and how they have always accounted for this and that amount of hospitalizations. Exhausting stuff.

And I don't know how to explain any of this dissociation anymore, but god dammit do I see it in everything. Doesn't others?

But but but, muh economy...

We just allowed this system to take us to slaughter, happily. To some the right to sit on terraces and drink beer was so much more important than lives that it wasn't even hard.

Don't you just love it when you are expecting a home delivery and the sender accidentally sends the "sorry, your carrier tried to deliver, but could not"-bs BEFORE the time window of delivery has even started. Hahaha.

And you are remote working and absolutely know that nobody tried to deliver anything at all to you on that day. Not that the delivery window you got from the carrier even started yet.:D

Endless scam, everything is just this shitty nowadays.

Capitalist efficiency. It's efficient because we don't even try to do the things we sell to people anymore, but we sure bill for them.

Just bought my son & his gf tickets to go see The Shining. There's a classic horror film night at our local theater.

Just because I could now that I am working with decent pay.

Feels nice. What a privilege. Really could not have just done such things even 6 months ago.

Anybody who says money doesn't matter is totally not aware of what ones material conditions are like when there is none.

I honestly believe that one big reason why the paradigm of pathology is so strong when it comes to , and other folks is that:

we have a strong tendency to dismantle all the things.

We do not automatically respect authority, not unless we see that it is deserved.

We question the status quo as our natural mode of operation.

It has even been labelled and demonized as "justice sensitivity" or whatever, one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

"Oh you don't like it when people are being oppressed? You must have justice sensitivity."

And seeing folks like us as valuable and useful to society might be tricky for those who benefit from all that oppression.

We are the people who call shit out. I for one am very proud of that. It has always been one of my best qualities.

Private
dianor,

@theautisticcoach That a lot of times you are supposed to lie. And somehow know what the things you are supposed to lie about are.

Still shocking to me. Yesterday I was told that you are supposed to lie about your pay if someone asks it. I had no idea, why? @actuallyautistic

dianor,

@masukomi So, employers doing this I get, it is in their best interest. But workers adopting this and then going around saying "it's just not good manners to talk about your pay/openly disclose it" are a mystery to me.

Asking them directly why this isn't "good manners" produces muttering and no good answers apart from "it's just not done". I get we have lost most of our class consciousness, but why do those with worse pay join in on this "norm" and why is talking about it so ankward to many? This part makes no sense to me. @theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic
