prob for the best, so many reports of malfunctions in the last few days, not to mention the airplane things

This is incredibly concerning, I wish I could use other OS exclusively for my work, but Windows is still the only place for a lot of dev tools. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/05/microsofts-new-recall-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/

@sasha92 fingers crossed this stays optional forever

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@fabiosantoscode yeah, not sure how viable it would be for me, I have way too many SDKs/toolchains that I can only run on Win. would depend how stable the vm is. would need to test it.

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Haijo7 in terms of cross compilations, I've done my games on Linux so I do know some tools work. But console tools/sdks/toolchains, which I use daily is a big problem.

anyone have a link to a nice non-techy guide for people considering Linux dual booting in 2024?

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@terry it’s such a shame bootcamp is no longer viable on M1+ computers :(

This might be the coolest way to play Apotris

This runs ScummVM as well. Actually all the way up to PS1

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@alex no, it's a Miyoo Mini+

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@sabandijo @alex yeah this doesn’t have analogue, but should be enough even on PS1 since I think only a handful of games require DualShock

@simonoliver I installed OnionOS yes, I have to check what the other one is. thanks

Story about NVIDIA failing to create a GPU for Dreamcast and deliver the product, nearly going bankrupt, but SEGA still gave/invested money to save the company, despite choosing a competitor's GPU for Dreamcast. https://wallstreetsights.com/business/the-84-year-old-man-who-saved-nvidia/351/

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@TomF and by the time Dreamcast was being made I would have imagined tech had concluded that quads was not the way. That’s even weirder, and Nvidia bet their company on making another one alike

I wonder if this is why iOS OS files storage keeps growing even when we delete stuff, there’s bugs where stuff isn’t actually deleted but we can’t see it anymore.

I've been using a MS Sculpt for the past ~9years as main keyboard, and I fear when it dies I won't find a good replacement. tried others over the years and always come back, it's great. Should probably find a store that has stock for a spare while I still can, just in case.

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@roytries I would give this keyboard a try if they have a TKL version, full key is not good for me.

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@wilpoly nice find, thanks for sharing.

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@roytries niche market (I've been told)

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@jahed yeah that's a problem, however I've ran into keyboards that had firmware BR issues etc, disconnecting, and this just works, and I think because there's a dedicated device for it. so in a way it's reliable.

'Virtual Boy: The bizarre rise and quick fall of Nintendo’s enigmatic red console' by Benj Edwards and Jose Zagal https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2024/05/virtual-boy-the-bizarre-rise-and-quick-fall-of-nintendos-enigmatic-red-console/

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@konstantinosd I think what really helped killing it was all the safety guards added that made it non portable, a bit like the Wii U was limited to being tethered to something, and Switch solved that issue. The screen wasn't good but I think it would have done better if not for the other thing.

I've been using them for years but if @protonprivacy starts using training AI based on my email I'm closing my account the very same day.

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@ben the AI question would kinda make sense to ask, even if we don’t like it we can leave it in the “productivity improvements” area. The Bitcoin question is highly concerning though. What’s the reason here @protonprivacy ?

Winamp is going open-source. kinda weird to announce the release so many months before, but still cool. I'm a bit worried about the call for "global collaboration" though, almost seems like they are just trying to outsource development to the community. Especially since it looks like they are trying to do a "spotify alike" platform https://about.winamp.com/press/article/winamp-open-source-code
