@Lorenanicole I'm not normally conspiracy minded AND helicopters are more dangerous than planes, but it's not like countries don't assassinate folks who are inconvenient. Either way it can't be good for the region
@simonw@AlSweigart I REALLY need to read that again. Haven't read it since it was published 24 years ago and ont only has the world changed a ton, but so have I. I wonder if I would find the same parts to be as neat as I did back then when Stephenson was declaring the end of cyberpunk and the birth of cypherpunk.
@simon@Lorenanicole except for the injection he mentions right after where they email the person you begged off from having brunch with!
Related - recently George Takei tooted - "The version of me who made plans was less tired than the current me" is a valid excuse for not going to brunch today.
@Lorenanicole@georgetakei he sure is!! I love how he is using his celebrity to bring attention to and ensure we don't forget about the shameful treatment of our Japanese citizens during WWII
Yesterday I ask about 3000 folks at #pyconUS (In-person and virtual) along with folks on social media. 200 of y'all rose to the occasion and donated making us smash our hopeful goal for the first day of the event.
@kjaymiller heck yeah, dude!! Your talk was so great. The most important part, to me, was that intention is important but matters less than how it's received
@leahawasser when I mentioned @AlSweigart during my first #pyconus lightning talk ever and the audience starts reacting and I turn and he's standing right there at the other podium. Hard to beat that moment.
@leahawasser@AlSweigart it sure was! I'm already contemplating a sequel ( I had to leave out so many projects ). Or maybe a full-fledged talk for for next time?
@marcgibbons@baconandcoconut I heard that yesterday and applauded it, but what does it mean in practice? I ask because I honestly don't know. Does it mean PSF running its own social networks? Or rather just that we won't tolerate those hateful things when people say them?
@micahflee I'm no fan of Tucker's (to call him an asshat would be an insult to asshats), but could this set a bad precedent? What about the folks who have interviewed leaders of Al Qaeda or any other dictator anywhere?
@miguelgrinberg As I was reading your Microdot post (https://blog.miguelgrinberg.com/post/microdot-yet-another-python-web-framework), it made me want to ask your opinion on web frameworks, especially given your expertise with Flask. I've written apps in Django, FastAPI, and Flask. I think the dev story for choosing between Django and Flask/FastAPI is pretty easy to see. But for a new project how does one decide between Flask and FastAPI? Thoughts?
@miguelgrinberg a good answer. The only reason I asked it is that if you look at Pyramid, Django, and Flask - they are all completely different. But FastAPI is so similar to Flask. And Flask continues to evolve - it's not like it's a dead end and everyone left it for FastAPI, so I wasn't sure if there was a usecase you saw that lent itself better to one or the other.
