    @chucker D-Day does have generally positive connotations in American culture because it is ultimately a story about “good" triumphing over "evil". It could be seen as similar to using Armistice Day or Veteran's Day in a similar context. Those events are both related to war but are trying to celebrate victory and such.

    @chucker Sorry, should have said “it is ultimately portrayed and thought of as a story about…” because with rare exception no population/group should ever be lumped in with their worst members.

    And to talk about trivializing war: the best selling game in America almost every single year is Call of Duty, which often has you playing as American soldiers in WWII.

    America does a great job of making entertainment out of tragedy and hiding the real human costs.

    I can't remember the exact wording the nail tech used, but basically when she asked if I wanted my nails to be shiny it was an instant yes.

    There's a few odd things in transition that deep, deep parts of me very longingly want in a very sex and gender way, but which are flatly impossible, with no prospects of ever becoming possible. Like, hard sci fi levels of not possible.

    And sometimes I really don't know what to do about them.

    @Impossible_PhD I think there are some parallels with you and I. My gender identity is hazy and mercurial at best. And anything I identify with has to come with a ¯_(ツ)_/¯ an asterisk and at least two daggers.

    And then layering desires for my physical form on that and things get real messy, especially because 7 years into this my brain still says that nothing has changed except now I have so-so boobs.

    And then on top of that is a profound lack of understanding of what I want genital wise. 😔

    I had a health insurance rep once apologize to me for terrible service. And in my mind I couldn't stop thinking about "but that is the point of health insurance, to be awful".

    Okay so

    I love rpgs, I'm a final fantasy girl, and ff7 was an absolutely formative game for me.

    Except for the Honeybee Brothel. Which was scarring. To this day, drag makes me deeply uncomfortable at best.

    I have not played the ff7 remake game because of it. Friends, including transfem friends, have told me that the new Honeybee scene is vastly better and reviews call it a celebration of queerness and just

    I keep seeing a man in a dress being made into an object of gawking.

    @Impossible_PhD As a transfeminine person who usually loathes drag I think the best thing I can say about the Honeybee sequence in remake is that I’m not still thinking about it. I can think back to the times drag made me uncomfortable or depressed and Honeybee doesn’t register.

    Maybe because the game sequence is so patently ridiculous? Or because Aerith is also getting dressed up? In my case at least I’m not ruminating on it later.
