@luis_in_brief This literally makes no sense. But maybe that's the point?

So glad to see @workingclasshistory is back to regular posting here. Their podcast, Stories app & On This Day (OTD) posts are invaluable for their reach across SM platforms. I know of no other source that so thoroughly catalogs & retells the overlooked histories made and written by working class people in their struggle for a more just world. As a powerful tonic against big man history, a pitfall even for leftists, the breadth & depth of their coverage astounds me. Some examples of recent posts:

Weekend reading: I wrote about how conceptions of what it means to “defend democracy” have shifted in Joe Biden’s major speeches.

Is the liberal center embracing the idea of transforming America rather than just restoring pre-Trump “normalcy”?

A thread, based on this week’s piece:

@tzimmer_history I remember having a similar hope around Obama's "A More Perfect Union" speech in 2008. Despite the overwhelmingly positive response it received and the ways it shifted the conversation within the party, in retrospect it was probably the liberal's furthest advance towards a true reckoning. Back then, it gave me some hope. Now it's too little too late. Just my 2¢, but you're totally right, it is a notable shift for Biden.

Today is my birthday!

If you'd like to do something for me for my birthday, would you please reply to this with—or by other means send me— something with colors you liked? Like an image or a video or a link. Music would also be acceptable if it gives you a strong synesthesiac association with color.

If this request confuses you, here are some examples of images with colors I found striking [Artists: Laurie Barmore, Vian Borchert, Erica Aurahack]. But your reply can be whatever colors you like.

Catching up on the vigorous debate re: the Bluesky/Mastodon bridge, via @activitypubblueskybridge this AM. There's an ineluctable tension between protocol vs license: both powerful but separately coordinated means of governing content, privacy, permissions & safety in the fediverse, or in any digital space for that matter. How best to balance state regs, CoC's/moderation, and protocol dev as overlapping forms of governance? It gets really sticky when put into practice.

Wow. UAW is openly calling for a general strike May 1, 2028, which is the day they negotiated their contracts to expire, and they're encouraging other unions to do the same.

Fain: "Back in 1980 when Reagan at the time fired PATCO workers, everybody in this country should have stood up and walked the hell out. We missed the opportunity then, but we’re not going to miss it in 2028."

This is pretty damn amazing. Reading letters no one has seen in 1950 years. Our increasing (and good!) awareness of all the world’s hardships makes it easy to forget that we also live in a time of wonders. https://scrollprize.org/firstletters

@luis_in_brief Omg this really is AMAZING!! There was a great Told In Stone episode on these recently, which I recommend for anyone who wants a 5min explainer:

Currently, does not use any Javascript. I wanted to make it as simple as possible.

But as more data becomes available, I want to do some cool stuff to show this data in a fun way.

So I might, MIGHT, add a bit of JS for the sake of some slick interactivity.

MAYBE.

(and no, there won't ever be any weirdo tracking nonsense that bloats it to a standstill. )

@Are0h Not to be that guy (as I'm being that guy) but are you you sure you couldn't pull it off with pure CSS?

Pondering what reusable governance tools built for communities (and/or commons?) look like, specifically in contrast to licenses, which are often individualistic (especially in the culture space).

A lot of what I'm thinking about would probably be encapsulated in a license → governance mindset shift: static → dynamic; individualist → collective. But not all?

@luis_in_brief Would something like @ntnsndr's CommunityRule match some of what you're looking for?

And I was gonna mention xlcollaborative.com but I see you listed as an advisor. 😂
