When I move my Firefox profile, why does some websites and extensions remember my settings etc, and others don't?

Like Phanpy had forgotten everything, but I was still logged in to my instance. I was still logged in to Reddit, but RES had forgotten my settings, etc.

Aren't all cookies and settings saved in the profile folder?

@forteller they might be saved in localstorage in the browser, which is separate from cookies, but easier to work with in JavaScript. I don’t think localstorage is stored in the profile

I don't love the idea of my money going to fund the companies destroying the world, but most mutual funds seems to do that, and the banks, who knows what they do?

So I've started a bit of my money in solar panel infrastructure trough . They show me exactly where my money goes, and to what: Installing rooftop solar!

I'm supposed to get my money back w/interest, but there's ofc a risk. But the risk from investing in world destroyers is worse, IMO.

I considered asking to please be more careful what you share, but ended just saying "Did you read the findings of the study? It's insignificant" and linking to a great video by @rebeccawatson explaining it

Stupid me thought they would appreciate being warned they're spreading bad info, instead I got blocked

It would be funny, if it wasn't for the state of people not caring about truth these days

So, I'm re-encoding my Stargate SG-1 episodes in a bit better quality. The tracks on the Blurays are not always in the same order as the episodes, but I'm finding that I only need to watch a few seconds of the encoded video file to know which episode title it is.

I fear I've watched too much Stargate 😁

Dictation on macOS is pretty good imho, but text-to-speech is uhhhh...

Listened to @changelog's recent podcast with one of the founders of Thinkst (you may have heard of Thinkst Canary). Great episode!

Their Canary product is really interesting and they way they've built it is super impressive. And the way they run the company is also really impressive.

I use for web searches (https://kagi.com/), and they just opened up unlimited searches for their $10 plan, and up.

They capped earlier this year, for some tiers, but now it gone again. I never hit the cap, so didn't notice, but it's nice that I don't have to think about it.

@forteller Har dårlig erfaring med søk på NRK. Søkte her om dagen etter en sak. Skrev ett ord som var i tittelen på artikkelen: Ingen treff.

Du får kanskje bedre resultat med “<søketerm> site:nrk.no" i din foretrukne søkemotor

@blainsmith I’m still bitter people on the internet fooled me into believing SQLite is much less capable than it is. I’m such a fan now, but “back in the day” I always received the advice “don’t use it in production”, sometimes with the caveat “unless it’s embedded” or something similar.

One of the interesting features of old BBC programs is the mistakes that stay in. They were filmed live, not unlike recorded theatre, which means accidental bumps to the camera is part of the finished product.
