Is anybody good at editing STLs? I have a modal I want to negative cut some text and a SVG logo onto the back.

I'll happily throw a few bucks because I've tried and failed to get the Blender Boolean cut to work!

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@shlee I’ll give it a crack, I’ve done some modifications on STLs before in F360, not sure how well it’ll work because I’ve never used the emboss/deboss tool before

What the heck is this dingus on the end of my new dishwasher's hose likely to be for? I can make out "type 88" in the plastic moulding but both google and bing insisted I want to learn about main battle tanks instead. My best guess is that it's a temperature or flow rate sensor. I'm mildly excited by the need to add a hole saw to my tool collection, but I don't quite understand what purpose it serves being outside of the machine itself.

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@timixretroplays anti-flood thingo? Bunch of sensors and a solenoid in it, connected to the dishwasher

Properly photographing a 3.5" floppy disk for archival is annoyingly complicated. The label has THREE sides!

I've already built an automated system to take a picture of the front of a disk, but really I need to take THREE photos if I want to get the whole thing.

That means either three cameras or I need to rotate the disk 90° and then 180°, which is going to really stress the limits of my mechanical engineering skills.

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@foone 2 mirrors, make your own periscope that unwraps the edge and back so it can be photographed from the front (tricky to design)

just saw a circuit diagram where someone put a 470uF electrolytic on an MCU for decoupling.

Well that's a surprise, turns out removing voltage from the enable pin on this buck converter doesn't turn it off. 1k of pull down resistor doesn't do it either? (Shorting to ground does though)

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@vk3xe internal pull-up on the enable is common

Something a bit wonderful happens when lemon, garlic, oregano and olive oil meet. I have 5kg of Meyer lemons just picked off the tree, so I had to make chicken kebabs with sour cream tzatziki. Omnomnom

Reminder: when you clean the machine, also make sure to take the shower screen off and clean it!

jpm,

@franksting ultrasonic cleaners do wonders cleaning the shower screen itself, once you scrape off the coffee tar that’s built up

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@franksting citric acid works extremely well too - it’s about 98% of what’s in espresso machine cleaner, and costs about 1/10th as much. Squirt of dishwashing detergent to get the other 2% of stuff

Any unsolicited email from them will be responded to with a suggestion to stick their face in a woodchipper so they can finally be useful.
