Slack have decided to start training AI on enterprise customer data, including DMs, private workspaces and files. You have to have admin opt out via email. HT @Quinnypig

I'm sorry Slack, you're doing fucking WHAT with user DMs, messages, files, etc? I'm positive I'm not reading this correctly.

Have you ever considered..

Viss, to random
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

if im reading this correctly, the entire internet is now on that little platform at the end of the first portal game, where glados decides shes done with you and slowly lowers you into an incinerator.

except the incenerator is a gaggle of llms that will get trained.

The writing is on the wall.

Actually it's not writing. It's neon letters directly wired to a fusion reactor.

The internet you knew? It's gone. There is no recovering it. There's too much money and incentive behind the idea of making the entire village into a strip mall run by LLMs. Your gardens are forfeit.

I don't know if a is possible, but even if it isn't, we gotta get to work building the intentional, human web. The one that rejects generative content, the one that verifies humanity through mutual trust, the one that takes privacy and safety of our neighbors as the highest value.

There are many tools available, but united effort must join together around them. Carefully, intentionally, we have to start moving what matters away from the polluted land.

ohhhhh, the reason i couldn't find any device-specific code in the binary i was reverse-engineering is because it was all living in encrypted lisp blobs

that makes sense

whitequark,
@whitequark@mastodon.social avatar

by the way, and incidentally fuck you Frederick G. Weiss and your associates, the key for decrypting the SteelSeries .edevice blobs is:

+T0mc(}@GOc4j9]C}K)=J)TS4WnLI0@!=qi5&xX]#&/ix5Og[pg7moE4NqZzh{?pw48)NlU$y3^[I#j9DNEMKvkQM2Z6X67RJKwhWsI#m1mu5/Q2ZPF78Kz=U5f

dearmor the blob, put it all in openpgp.ReadMessage, you can now enjoy the lisp blobs that have the programming algorithms for firmware updates and other "trade secrets" of Avnera

LBT: Apple very deliberately went with “your next computer isn’t a computer” as a strategy and now they sell a computer and a “not a computer” and everyone is scratching their heads.

@elzbethmrgn Millennials also feel embarrassed when they are on their laptop on Mastodon and they take their phone out of their pocket absent-mindedly to check what the little Mastodon is doing.

This is probably the only Gravis UltraSound-related thing I'll sensibly collect. This is the Gravis MIDI and Joystick Adapter, and I'm super thrilled to have picked one up for a reasonable price in this condition. At some point I'll carefully pull things out for a closer look, including scanning the paperwork, but in the meantime - did you ever have/use one of these? What'd you use it for/with? Let me know!

“We value your privacy” is such a smart phrase because it’s
a) entirely true
b) implies they will protect it
c) doesn’t mention they will sell it

Just once I’d like to see someone propose to take a California Bungalow in one of these places and reinstate its full Eighties Ethnic Palace characteristics. Concrete lions, front yard vegetable patch, pebblecrete, the lot. I’m convinced it would come up to Burra Charter standards if you did it right (and the house had actually had that treatment in the past) but the neighbours and the Council and NSW Heritage would have a fit

There’s an ongoing issue where any standard domain user can remotely crash event logging on Windows, and Microsoft haven’t fixed it. Details in thread.

Pretty obviously it’s a big bug, as if you’re moving laterally around a network, you can just stop Windows audit logging first. https://infosec.exchange/@0patch/111851266361754590
