I am fairly diligent about making a list of people I meet at a conference. I had meaningful conversations with 139 people over four days at PyCon US, plus a few more people that probably didn't make it to my list in the mayhem.

@mahryekuh During the conference, just a email draft. I keep it open on my phone and between conversations, type people into a list. The pitfall is auto-correct. I do need to find a way to keep track of people long term. I am currently using LinkedIn and Google Sheets, but I've heard Airtable can be leveraged well.

After chatting with a PSF Staff Member a few years ago about location selection, I assumed that PyCon US would never be held in a high cost of living city. Last year, I treated myself by taking my dream Los Angeles vacation in December. I loved it, and I can't wait to go back for PyCon US!

While frantically preparing for my vacation after just coming back from PyCon (don’t ask), I’ve pushed out https://github.com/hynek/build-and-inspect-python-package/releases/tag/v2.6.0 that adds support for the new ubuntu-24.04 builders and the name of the uploaded artifact as a new output.

@blaise @hynek I talked to him for the second time at PyCon US. He remembered that he met me five years ago and introduced me to the new Python Release Manager. Mind blown. :)

During DjangoCon US 2023, I walked around downtown Durham and took some photos of the quirky artwork there. I am super excited that my photos helped inspire this year's DjangoCon US theme. It makes me smile, and I hope it makes you smile too! ❤️ https://2024.djangocon.us/

Another truly epic day at PyCon US. It ended with an amazing PyLadies Auction that raised $60,000. ❤️

Okay, so you've seen the guides on what to do at PyCon.

But have you seen the guide for those of us that are not able to attend?

@pythonbynight If it makes you feel better, someone mentioned today that they'd seen you in a PyCon US video. You are there in spirit!

I can't even begin to put into words what an epic day I had sightseeing and hanging out with fellow PyCon US attendees. 🐍♥️

After hanging out at the convention center with some PyCon US attendees and enjoying the Allegheny riverfront, I was tempted to get some cheap takeaway for supper, but I stopped and said to myself, I should be trying the best this city has to offer. So, I googled "best restaurant in Pittsburgh." The top result was Fig & Ash, a short walk away. I went there and had an incredible meal... spaghetti and cast iron Kahlua fudge brownie. https://figandashpgh.com/menu

After telling you all to sign up for PyCon US activities before they sell out I, Mariatta, PyCon US 2024 conference chair, also forgot to sign up for PyLadies Luncheon and now they're sold out 😭😭😭😭

@mariatta Oh shoot. I didn't know we had to sign up for that.

I'm going to !!
It feels like a miracle (long story), and I may not believe it until I'm at the convention center.
It's my first pycon and I can't wait to be among all those

If you see me, please say hello, and if you don't see me, send me a DM and we'll rendezvous.

I typically carry business cards with me, but I came across another good tip recently at a conference. Use a LinkedIn QR code to connect on LinkedIn. Just in time for PyCon US. 🐍 https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a525286/using-a-linkedin-qr-code-to-connect-with-members?lang=en

Two of the restaurants I ate at in Austin when I was there for PyTexas are featured in this "The 25 Best Restaurants in Austin" list: Franklin's BBQ and Cuantos Tacos. I had the brisket at both. Super yummy! More ideas for next time.🌮🌮🌮 https://www.nytimes.com/article/best-restaurants-austin.html

Over the last five months, travel, holidays, sickness, and death in the family sidetracked me from going to the gym. Yesterday was one day too many. Trying something new... going to the gym after work, using an elliptical like usual, adding weight lifting. Already feeling better.
