If you're adapting your app for #AppleVisionPro, you've probably added contentShape to your custom button styles to get a better .hoverEffect()

This also has a nicer side effect for VoiceOver highlighting, as it will now match the actual UI element!

A VoiceOver user just told be that he got lost in "Study with Subwords". Turns out that the .accessibilityRepresentation with a UIViewRepresentable is broken in the iOS 17 RC 🥲

It's still visible to VoiceOver when directly pointing the finger at it, but it's nowhere to be found when swiping through the elements.

But because the user couldn't see the button, they got stranded there. 🫣

Currently working on a new Accessibility feature for Study Snacks called "Assistive Learning"!

This lets someone bring the app into a special mode for a person with cognitive disabilities, so that they can focus on learning. It simplifies the UI and reduces the app to its core features.

Still work in progress, but here is a quick demo!

Study Snacks 2.2.1 - #Accessibility update is out now!

The first big addition is "Assistive Learning".
Activating it brings the app into a simplified mode, reducing it to its core functionality. This is intended to help people with cognitive disabilities.

The demo also shows the second big change:
The simplified study screen UI has been completely rewritten in SwiftUI. 🥳 As its also used for VoiceOver, this change will make learning far more responsive for VoiceOver users!

I was at an #a11y design lab at #WWDC23 and was told by two engineers that Study should post a ‘screenChanged’ notification every time I change a tab in the tab bar, effectively changing the focus of VoiceOver from the tab item to the navigation title.

But I tried several system apps and none of them do that. So I don’t know what to do with that feedback - Should I stick with the convention or do what I was told at the lab? 👀

Any suggestions? Did anyone of you ever hear of such a behaviour?

Question!
I'm unhappy with the name "Study with Subwords" and think about renaming it!

The app is based my game "Subwords". People often asked for a way to use it as a study tool, so I built it and named it “Study with Subwords”.

But I now feel like this name is long, mouthful and nobody remembers it🫣

One idea would be to rename:
"Study with Subwords" -> "Subwords | Playful Learning"

And then rename the game "Subwords" -> "Subwords | The Game"

What do you think? Would love any suggestions!
