is actually really cool and simple. A breath of fresh air coming from a framework war background

kraktoos,

@Brendan @brbcoding just playing around with vanilla PHP, not building anything serious so I don't need Laravel yet. PHP just makes sense. You have variables to access GET, POST, SESSION, COOKIES and the amount of documentation for it... I mean it's heaven!

kraktoos,

@kynetiq I swear now that I look back I spend more time fiddling with those and fixing bugs than actually coding when using Typescript...

How do y'all manage your ? I just create manual folders with , but I'm looking for a better (less manual) solution.

kraktoos,

@mamus I've never personally used SUSE, but I've heard it's really good. I just think Tumbleweed, because of its rolling release nature, would not be that good for beginners. On the other hand, I don't see many people using Leap (don't know why).

kraktoos,

@mamus I mentioned them both as being stable. Personal experience: I've never had a debian based distro break on me but I've had fedora go on TTY mode only 2-3 times now (because of either updates or my error)

is just a less customizable closed source version of +.

kraktoos,

@brume better gaming, more compatibility (debatable), better performance are some others I got reminded of as well.

kraktoos,

@zem @paulgatling I meant they being both POSIX compliant and really similar in many ways, but + being so much better in almost every single way. The kernel in is not Linux (even though it should be).

Looking to buy a . What do y'all use/recommend? It should run well (so no MacBooks), have really good (~6+ hours), support up to 32Gb+ of , and have reasonably good repairability and upgradability.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm from Europe (Portugal) and would prefer a Portuguese keyboard layout.

kraktoos,

@catguy I've actually looked at both the Framework laptops (13 inch and 16 inch) but there are two caviats that I found: they're a little too expensive for what they are (or for what I think they're worth spec-wise) and there is no Portuguese keyboard layout (yet?). They seem really nice though.

Also, are there any differences between the two besides the size?

kraktoos,

@abmurrow System76 seems really nice though I forgot to mention I'm from Europe (Portugal) and I'm pretty sure they either don't ship here or have really bad support and I don't really want that.

When I see on a landing page I just know that the product/app will be unreliable, give me made up information and most likely use my data to train itself.

Installed a few days ago and as someone coming from , I have to say that having a package manager that is actually fast is amazing. The difference in speed between pacman and dnf is HUGE

Thinking of distro-hopping, any suggestions? Thinking of going for either an arch-based distro such as :artix: or :endeavourOS: or some immutable distro such as :nixos: .

kraktoos,

@jakehamilton I might have to see if the Nix hype is real

kraktoos,

@Wyatt @Anachron Ah yes, I've always loved to compile everything I use!

Checking out right now, and I have to say that I love both the idea and the execution. Simplifying the JavaScript ecosystem is something needed.

kraktoos,

@anders Bun can run TypeScript, so it does replace tsc and ts-node, but you can still use tsc for typechecking (as per https://bun.sh/blog/bun-v1.0). I don't know if tsconfig is needed but it definitely works and is respected.

Having learnt the basics of Svelte and now using React again is painful.
