It's Monday, so I'm starting new posts for my daily #inkyDays drawings.

Today, I'm playing with a bit of color gradient, starting in the center of these branches. It's very subtle, though.

Here's an in-progress photo

I'm loving these diamond patterns, and had to try them in a network, in today's drawing. So far, so good.

Trying something different for today's drawing.

And that's a wrap for this week of daily drawings. The in-progress and finished drawings are now all posted for my supporters on Ko-fi and Patreon. This week's drawings are in these posts:

Happy Monday!

In today's drawing, I'm playing with a different composition with this floral pattern.

I've started this week's posts for my supporters on Patreon and Kofi:

Having fun with this pattern, and having it grow from the edges. So, trying it with one of my inks from Japan, for today's drawing.

How can it be Friday already? I've been working on new drawings, and getting ready for upcoming events. I completely lost track of time today, so I'm a bit late on posting today's drawing.

Here's a work in progress shot of today's drawing.

Me when I was so close to figuring out a difficult nesting/iteration problem from some in , but then its 1am and everything is just a mess and you cant work on it anymore because you have to go to sleep to wake up and spend time w/ your family before vacation ends🥲

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@meghansharris I feel this, so much.

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@meghansharris I remember those frustrations, when my kids were little. During those times, my thoughts stretched? Not quite sure how to express it. But in those times, I started taking notes more than I ever had before. As I was working...then I could let go more easily and come back later.

I'm confident that you will solve it.

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@meghansharris the perk of time with little ones? Our brains are hyped up to learn, quickly. And it can be extra challenging to get your thoughts written up as quickly as you fly through them.

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@meghansharris But it is really hard, and new moms just don't get the support they should, even with a strong support system. It's just not enough.

There is so much hype about AI these days. So much of the data popular tools are trained on are stolen and otherwise unethically sourced.

To distinguish work from such unethical projects, one must put extra work to provide context and labels.

Throwing out sexy catchphrases is lazy and irresponsible right now. If you are a researcher, you MUST distinguish your work from the "generate sales videos with chatGPT" that we're all swamped with.

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

Yeah, a lot of folks in the data viz field, are focusing purely on the presentation of data.

However, especially when it comes to AI, given the tools currently being hyped, we really need to be asking more questions about where the data is coming from. Shit! Any responsible analyst/visualizer should be asking these questions regardless of AI.

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

I personally care about ethics, and the ethics of data collection and utilization.

If you don't, then this may not be the instance for you.

Life is so very short. And I don't have time for promoting unethical data collection or tools built from them.

If your AI work is ethical, then please make it clear that it is, and how it is. Be the lifeline in the flood of hype. Be clear. Be considerate of everyone's time and attention.

I don't know how else to say this, but any restriction on women's health care is a restriction on women's lives.

I myself, would have died in childbirth, if not for the medical care I and my wonderful child received.

Somehow, extreme politics has taken women's health out of the realm of care and into the realm of control and oppression.

If anyone in our dataviz community would like to collaborate on a project in this realm, please reach out.

Ugh, Ok, what are some alternatives to Zoom?

And what's with all these TechCos not seeing a problem with this? And no-op-out? WTF?!!!

What seems like a lifetime ago, I did a lot of work with Flash-AS3. I loved the creative freedom it gave me. I'd be working on an interactive Periodic Table of Elements, and then I'd make a Tetris-inspired game from some of the same code.

I still play, and push ideas into the realm of art whenever I can, but now it's usually coded in Javascript or Python.

Most of my career, I've been working on visualizing Science in various media. Sometimes, that's a game for teaching about how immune cells find infections.

This game is still a prototype, but it's free to play.
