I am starting the installation of Mastodon v4.1.3 for everyone on Masto.host now.

During the upgrade there will be around 30 seconds of downtime.

You can see the release changelog here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.1.3

kristinHenry,

@mastohost Thank you! Much appreciated!

Hey vis.social folks!

I've increased our provisioning, but things are still lagging.

So we need to all be patient as system-wide and our hosting stabilize again.

There have been massive influx of new and returning folks across all of mastodon and the greater fediverse.

There will be some growing pains as infrastructure grows and adapts.

If you're new to Mastodon, or newly returning, I've written up documentation that explains some quirky things here.

Here's a general version: https://kristinhenry.medium.com/some-basics-for-getting-started-and-joining-a-community-server-on-mastodon-1eb0fa9fde90

And here's one focused on our community here on vis.social: https://github.com/KristinHenry/vis.social

Hey vis.social folks!

Ok, I just nearly doubled our provisioning and expenses. But this should help keep up with all the new activity.

Hey vis.social folks!

I don't usually make announcements when I add an instance to our blocklist, unless it's temporary limit (usually due to spam).

But today, I put threads.net on our block list as Suspended/blocked.

Lots of reasons, but I really don't want to rehash what so many others have said so well.

In case you were looking forward to facebook-on-fedi, I'm afraid this instance won't be participating.

Currently Object Storage is down and it's causing server queues to fill up and in extreme cases to become unresponsive.

I have just confirmed with OVH that the issue is happening and they are working on it.

Really sorry for the inconvenience and will update here when I have more information.

@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@mastohost Thank you! I am confident that you will get it resolved, and very much appreciate you.

@TomLarrow I'm not sure if you're aware, but we're asking folks to use a CW "content Wrapper" with "food" as the heading when posting photos of food and some other topics.
Fortunately, mastodon lets us edit posts and add CWs.

My family is not amused by my amusement at the one-man-made catastrophe that was the bird site.

The technical stuff? The not paying bills stuff? They really don't care.

Some for today. Ribbons of color flow through the screen and blend together.

I had made a version of this a while ago in Processing, but was able to leverage some great optimizations thanks to 's use of numpy

There are further optimizations, but this was going to look different at the start, and I just ended up here, because my I didn't like what I thought I would.

These are always a process

Code: https://codeberg.org/TomLarrow/creative-coding-experiments/src/branch/main/x_0075

Yellow light green, red, navy blue, and grey ribbons of color blend together and flow across the screen
Yellow light green, orange, purple and navy blue ribbons of color blend together and flow across the screen
gold, tan, red, purple and navy blue ribbons of color blend together and flow across the screen

Hey vis.social folks!

If you're new, or returning, to our little community, please be sure to skim through our docs:

We tried to keep them short, and useful.

I keep seeing these ads for 'learn to code faster'.

But, in my experience, it's not the coding that usually takes a long time....unless you count debugging.

What takes a lot longer...what should take a lot longer...is figuring out what needs to be coded and why.

Thinking through what code should be written, before writing it, saves so much time and yields better code, that's easier to read and reuse.

Additionally, considering the ethics is also critical to good engineering.

It's Monday, so I'm starting new posts for my daily drawings.

Today, I'm playing with a bit of color gradient, starting in the center of these branches. It's very subtle, though.

I'm rather late posting today's drawing.

It's another cold and foggy day, here in San Francisco. I figured a red floral was called for

To distract myself from the rotten core of the supreme court, I'm drawing a pretty fungi pattern.

I also drew a bigger version of a floral, with colors from a couple days ago, on fine art paper.

I'm still angry.

Happy Monday!

Today I'm playing with adding a flower or fruit at the end of each branch. The delicate structure is giving me joy.

Here's a work-in-progress photo of today's drawing.

Starting new posts for my supporters on Patreon and Ko-fi, and I'll be posting this week's daily drawings in them:
