Amarok, KDE's legendary music player, is out with version 3.0.1.

https://blogs.kde.org/2024/06/02/amarok-3.0.1-released/

@kde

ltlnx,

@tsonfeir @leopold I think they're more focused on fixing build errors and putting out a release for now, and leave UI updates for later. So we're stuck with the old look for this release.

Following the recent decisions by Ubuntu, I am actively looking for a replacement for my main laptop. And Nomad BSD seems like a good option...

(It's been a long long time since I last used FreeBSD!)

ltlnx,

@ParadeGrotesque Wonder if you've tried Slackware on your main laptop? Mine ran Slackware for 3 years and it's… kinda fine, stable as heck but suspend never worked (I'm on -current)

Today's update video is available and is a special interview with @CRogers while I'm here at

What is the experience of using inkscape in the design industry? Can it be used by professionals?

https://tilvids.com/videos/watch/cb8474f3-9d6d-4a01-9a6a-b271c76be1f0 (posting peertube, let me know if i should continue instead of youtube)

ltlnx,

@vintprox @doctormo @CRogers Newpipe works too, and I can interact with channels just like YouTube channels.

t-shirt test prints. The hardest prints to ask someone to make is vivid colors on a dark fabric.

Especially this company that didn't have any icc profiles so you couldn't even run a basic test to see how it might come out.

Two designs. One is the CMYK Inkscape design and the other is the Inkscape Beta Testers design.

Lastly a test of their embroidery with a simple patch.

Thoughts?

The same goofy hat man as before. This time wearing a thicker sweater with an Inkscape Tester logo on the front. The inkscape shape is cut out of a white tag shape and behind the logo and peeking out from it's bottom is a ribbon of colors similar to the old Beta logo.
A circular iron on embroidery patch with the inkscape logo in white, a black background and a white satin stitch edge. Behind it is the iron on instructions that come with the patch.

ltlnx,

@chris_hayes @doctormo Agreed that the tester one would look gorgeous without the white outline! It looks good alreagy though.

I am stepping back from the project with immediate effect.

I discovered severe lapses in how the Tusky project's donations (received via ) were being handled. When I reported those to the project's private "Tusky Contributors" Matrix channel the financial admins tone policed the feedback, refused to engage with the concerns I and others raised, and demanded the discussion be stopped.

There is too much detail for a thread, so please read https://write.as/nikclayton/stepping-back-from-the-tusky-project.

ltlnx,

@nikclayton Thanks for writing this up. FOSS fund management seems to be a recurring pain point across projects, hope your new project goes well!

Open source smart speaker under $25, yes or no?

ltlnx,

@PINE64 Depends on the sound quality. Also what makes a smart speaker "smart"?

*Edit: one of those ones with a mic and Wi-Fi? Then my answer is no, but we'll see :blackcat_11127:

Because we are tired of our current stability issues just like you, we are scheduling some operations during today's Sunday, 30 July 2023.
There will be scheduled downtimes of about 30 minutes each.

We try to limit the length to not interfere with your workflow too much.

We used the last outage to install some outstanding upgrades and fine-tune some database settings which have been identified in a recent contributor meeting.

Today, we will continue working on our storage … read on

ltlnx,

@Codeberg Just wanted to say thank you for your great services. Access to my Codeberg Pages blog is still shaky at the moment, but this kind of frankness is what made me stay here. Take care!

Wallpapers! Have at em.

ltlnx,

@radiofreefedi Are there SVG versions of this (or other logos)? Would like to play around with it.

Also the two versions of the logo would look great as stickers, just saying :blobcatboo:

I am looking for an reader device.

Requirements:

  • operating system and apps
  • supported (ideally, mainline) kernel
  • receiving updates

Any suggestion?

ltlnx,

@dimitrisk Have you encountered the PINE64 PineNote? Solid device with 10-inch eink screen and pressure-aware stylus, with a good default OS (Android w/ custom interface) but able to install Linux with community packages. If you're OK with modding devices, this would be a good pick.

Hi folks, we are sorry, but this downtime could last a moment. It looks like one of our root SSDs failed. While the RAID seems to work, the performance has dropped to a level where the whole service is impacted, and even our shell on that server is near to unresponsive.

ltlnx,

@Codeberg Take care & get well soon!

I think you'll be able to render emoji if you select the emoji and choose an emoji font (usually Noto Color Emoji on Linux, Apple Color Emoji on Mac, not sure on Windows). If that doesn't work maybe it's time to reach for the XML editor...
