I just learned that a friend passed overnight, from cancer that had been in remission but then came back and took a very nasty and rapid turn.

So, for now, I'm trying to not look like anything is wrong in front of all of these conference people and our clients...

Perhaps later, I'll walk into the ocean and have a good scream.

Today, I did an outdoor event at a local historic property, and it was a lot of fun! (Even though it was windy AF.)

Oddly, I was the only one with wind breaks (the sun screens so I don't explode), so my stuff did the least amount of blowing around.

I had some of my homemade ink (and some glass dip pens to go with the ink), and I am proud to say that I turned at least two kids into new fountain/quill pen enthusiasts!

Oh, the joy of being a short person in a house with tall ceilings, when one of the smoke detectors decides its battery is dead and will not stop going off.

Now, to find the A-frame ladder and set it up and climb up there and hope I don't die.

I got a couple of simple knit capelets, and am turning them into couture (forestcore? Goblincore? What are we calling it, these days?) capelets.

I even managed to get the fastening stitches inside the knit stitches, so the thread doesn't show on the underside of the garment.

I got excited and started filtering, but then realized how long it will take, so I'm leaving it for the night.

Here is a test with the walnut ink with both an ultra fine nib fountain pen, and a glass dip pen.

I have to do a bit more experimenting with the fountain pen, because I'm not sure if it just needs to flow a little bit longer, or if I might have made it a little too thick for this particular nib. Once I find an empty pen with a regular nib, I'll give that a try.

I need to order more bottles!

I put the ink into a pen with an ultrafine nib (my favorite for writing!) and tried it on the watercolor paper and on printer paper:

"Pokeberry ink with ultrafine nib Printer paper" Written in pinkish-purple ink, in cursive. The paper appears smooth.

Fleurs!

A flower with white petals with faint pink stripes. They meet at the center, where it looks like there is a blue star with an even smaller white/pink flower in the center of it.
A cluster of flowers - a tall pink zinnia with three or four layers of petals around the center, which has a ring of yellow bits that themselves look like tiny flowers. There are several yellow flowers with yellow centers.
A bunch of tiny pink flowers, green violet leaves, and assorted miniature foliage growing out of the crack in the pavement where some cement steps meet the cement front walk. Growing out of the center of all of those is a yellow marigold.

Last week, my director informed me that we might be taking on a client who will be doing a conference next June in , and that they were wanting to send me to do the registration.

I am rather excited at this prospect - especially since I was told that it would be understandable if I'd like to take a few days after the conference to explore (obviously on my own dime).

I may need to bring an extra suitcase to fit all the fresh I'll most certainly want to bring home.

@lothcat there's a shop in Monterey that Imports it twice a month directly from Istanbul. I experienced this place when I was out there to do a conference, a few years ago. It was so delicious!

More fantastical, cinematic , last night!

This time, it was the usual of sometimes observing sometimes being a character. It took place in a combination of Turkiye and South Africa (idunno - dream logic), through winding old city streets and massive libraries (yay!), and also included a fun, super tropey side story about a princess or movie heroine escaping her confining lifestyle to be with her adventurous bestie/love interest.

In honor of the anniversary of the first airing of - the episode The Man Trap, here's a picture of my friend Sandy and me, that time we met a giant furry alien.

Sandy was the salt vampire (the actual monster, not the lovely ladies the menfolk saw). She's still working, doing and directing stunts. She's got around 5 black belts, and could kick our collective asses, and is just the nicest, funnest person you could have the pleasure of meeting.

(For scale, we're both about 5' tall.)
